My biggest problem with PCOS is I have only a few AF's a year that sometimes last months! Now I've been on MET for about 2 months and initially it stopped AF but now I'm getting it 2 or 3 times a month... Don't know which is worse. Did anyone have this with MET? Could it be a dosage complication? Or maybe my body adjusting
. I would love to hear of anyone who has gone through this. I'm currently on 2000mg/daily. Anyone that can give me any info, it would be so greatly appreciated. I feel like I'm going nuts! AF has become everyday routine! This sucks... Wish I was like every other fertile, model looking, woman around! They seem to be everywhere! ![]()

My Doctor isn't as informed as I would like. He would not give me MET to begin with but now has totally blown me off and wrote me a years subscription hoping not to see me again. I don't have insurance at the moment so its a big issue... How long should I try the MET b4 seeing a specialist about it? I'm not having flowing periods, sometimes light to just spotting so I guess I'm in no danger just desperately trying to conceive since getting married
. I hope you ladies are having more luck in this area than I am. Thanks for answering my question, I guess it could in fact be my body is getting used to it. ![]()

I would tell you to start seeing a specialist immediately if you hadn't mentioned that you have no medical insurance. As it is, I would continue with the metformin for at least another month to give it a good chance to take affect. Many women with PCOS find that it almost completely regulates their cycles. If after another month you're not seeing some difference, I would at least look into finding a new OB or whatever type of doctor you're currently seeing. Never ever settle for someone who doesn't care about your health.. it's just too important. I wasted so much time because I wasn't proactive about finding someone who would help me. I know how hard it is to not have insurance.. I was without it for about 3 years between losing coverage under my parents' policy and gaining it back when I got married.

I've heard of met being a miracle for so many of us suffering with PCOS, maybe I set my hopes up too high. Regardless I will give it another month or two before I see another doctor. I wish everyone had health insurance! Thank you so much for your advise, it def. helped me out a lot. I wish you the best!

Met!
I am on metformin and have been for about 7 months. It did not seem to help for a month of so but i beleive it is now. I did not however get more than one period a month my periods are still about 40 days apart but i do ovulate so no complaining there. I did notice that they got a lot lighter and less painful. Did they automatically start you on 2000mg or did you work up to that. I started on 500 then 1000 then 1700 so that seems like a lot to start on. If that is the case and you dont want to go back to that doctor maybe try going down to 500 as a doasage for a couple weeks then 1000 then the 2000 or something like that it might help.
Good luck!!

Thats curious actually I was on 500mg and within 2 weeks moved up to 2000 and still have no side effects. I eat fast food from time to time and still no side effects. I have not had to change my diet and had no regular side effects. Could it actually be that 2000mg isnt enough for me? I thought that was the highest dose? I'm sorry I know almost nothing. I never even knew about PCOS untill I was diagnosed a year ago. I'm kinda lost here
.

I don't think everyone has the same side effects. You may just have a more tolerant system than some of the rest of us. I wouldn't worry too much about the lack of feeling crappy.. just enjoy that bit
![]() As for learning more about PCOS, I recommend that you do. I found a great book that was really informative and it has a lot of really good info aside from just how this disorder affects us reproductively. Check out Amazon.com: A Patient's Guide to PCOS: Understanding--and Reversing--Polycystic Ovary Syndrome: Walter Futterweit: Books. At times it can get a little hard to understand.. it can be very academic.. but overall I highly recommend it. |
