Diagnosed with PCOS but no treatment?

Hello everyone!
My Re recentlly diagnosed me with PCOS (like 3 weeks ago). I'm currently ttc and have tried one IUI that did not work for us.
When I asked him if my PCOS was bad he said no, and when I asked at what level I was with PCOS he said that didn't exist.
He has not started me in any treatment for PCOS. Is that normal? Should I look for someone who will?
Would a regular endocrinologist be able to treat that?
Any advice would be appreciated!
Thank you.

There isn't really A LOT of treatment for PCOS. The only thing I would discuss with your RE is starting you on Metformin. It helps to control your hormones and symptoms. Even if you don't have a lot of symptoms right now, you probably will someday. I take Fortamet 500 mg BID. This is the extended release form of Metformin. It is easier on the stomach (Metformin can cause a lot of diarrhea and other stomach issues). Other than that, having PCOS can affect whether or not you ovulate, how often you ovulate and it can affect the number of follicles you actually have during infertility treatment. You will be more prone to OHSS then the average person.

Hope this helps.

I would try to get some answers from your RE as to why he isn't treating you and if you're not satisfied with his response, start shopping for a new RE. Not all women with PCOS need metformin (which is the generic form of Glucophage, not Fortamet, by the way) but it's likely you could benefit from it. Never settle for a doctor who you don't feel is giving you the care you deserve. Your health is too valuable to settle for second-rate treatment.

I'm not treated specifically for PCOS either. I don't have actual cysts on my ovaries, but have been diagnosed with PCOS because of the other symptoms match. I do take Clomid to induce ovulation (which resulted in 1 egg at 100mg).

There are treatments for PCOS. Metformin is one of the first line drug thereapy. You also have the antagonist they are starting to use. I would strongly recommend you go to a doctor that can give you a little more information about PCOS and some treatment modalities. I am a FNP and I do not work with a RE but I refer patient to them.

You should also go to another doctor. yes, PCOS can be a result of obesity or is obesity a result of PCOS. I thing doctors who say just lose weight are out of touch. I was over 300 pounds and was questioning my doctor on why I was not getting pregnant. He dx with PCOS w/o even doing any blood work. Well, in 4 weeks I became pregnant but had an ectopic. I read so much infomation about PCOS. You can have a large waist to hip ration and have PCOS and be within normal weight limints so weight is not always the answer. Good luck in your journey. I did get a lapband because of that doctor and I have lost 100pounds and I feel so much better. So for that I guess I should be thankful to him but I found another RE.
