OPT/OPK false positive with PCOS

I know this question might be a stupid one, but as I was driving to work was wondering if women with PCOS get false positive on OPT/OPK tests?

If so,
I did a OPT this cycle and on day 16 got a faint line and that was the first and only light line I saw. Tested after that and still nothing.
So I was just wondering now that I know I have PCOS, will this affect the OPT that I do from now on or will it give me a better understanding of my cycle and ovulation?

Thanks

I was diganosed w/ PCOS a few years ago & at that time I was getting positive OPK's really early in my cycle....After lots of IF tx's etc.....we were in a limbo period....I had noticed my cycles were becoming more regular....On the month before I got pregnant I had a positive OPK on cycle day 17 & 18...and my Dr. confirmed a mature follicle....The following month I used OPK's again & got a positive on cycle day 16 & 17- that month I got pregnant.....Now I would test earlier in my cycle too- to see if I was getting positives then, but I wasn't....I knew it was the real deal....I used Clear Blue Digital (they have a smiley face when you are about to ovulate) and I think they are the best- IMO.....Good luck!!!

I've read that many women with PCOS have raised LH, causing false positives. That happened to me and I was so excited. But alas.

Hello! I guess you could say I am kind of wondering the same thing as KellieJo. I had not really thought about it until I read her post. Now it has be wondering. When I get a + result on an OPK does that actually mean that I am ovulating? I have noticed too that I have some cervical mucus that indicates ovulation as well. Is it possible to produce the CM and still not ovulate? Now I am as confused as ever. Please help! Thanks!

Typically:

PCOS = elevated LH throughout cycle and/or multiple "false" LH surges = false + OPKs.

It's not too tough to figure out if this unfortunate circumstance applies to you or not, just take OPKs every day of your cycle for a cycle or two. It will cost you and extra $20 or $40 depending on how long your cycle is but it's kind of an interesting little self-experiment.

btw- as I've found it can also screw up breastfeeding which I have found particularly difficult (low supply).

You wait all this time to have a baby...and still PCOS ruins another part of your life.

I've tried everything...breastfeeding constantly, pumping, Reglan, Domperidone/Motillum, fenugreek, blessed thistle, drinking lots of water, eating lots of oatmeal. Starting Metformin.

My little man was loosing too much weight so we had to Supplement. I still breastfeed but the majority of his nusrishment comes from formula.

I was extrememly bummed at first, but now that I see him growing SOOOO well on the formula it's getting easier. Plus we didn't give up on breastfeeding all together. He still enjoys breastfeeding for comfort and now that I am more relaxed about it and breastfeeding less often it has some time to build up and I have a little more to offer him at each sitting.
