Post My Intro..

I'm 22, been married for x3 yrs, and haven't had a regular period since i got married.. I gained about 60 lbs.. i'm 5'8, and weighing 210 .. I went to my Ob/Gyn dr, and had tests run..u/s, hsg, and my hubby had a SA (WHICH WAS NORMAL) i then was referred to a Fertility/Endo Specialist, and he dx me with PCOS.. I feel pretty comfortable that I have this since all the symptoms do apply to me.. i'm over weight, i have cysts on both of my ovaries, i have discoloration in my skin.. and well.. yeah.. i have to go back and see him in 2-3 weeks..He also didn't SAY THIS STRAIGHT OUT, but did imply that weight loss would make a huge difference in my treatment.. So I'm going on a diet, and see if in 2-3 weeks i've lost SOME KIND OF WEIGHT..
I feel very scared having to go through all these procedures & medications.. I feel as if it's 'unfair' to my husband to have to go through this.. the thought of leaving him has crossed my mind.. i've told him how I felt, and he totally judged me as crazy.. but i feel selfish keeping him by my side if in the future after trying these methods i can't conceive.. just kinda feeling blue i guess.. thanks for reading

Hi Ychely,

Welcome to the forum. Hang in there and try to get the bad thoughts of leaving your DH out of your head! When you get married, your partner is supposed to be there for you, I'm sure you would do the same for him. It looks like your DH is ready to support both of you guys through this. There is always going to be some bumps on the way but I'm sure when two people are invested they can concur anything.

Many woman go through infertility treatments and the chances of conceiving are great with fertility help. So don't give up. You are very young so you have the time to allow yourself to see what will work and learn about the process and take it one step at a time. At the beginning it could be very overwhelming but once you learn about it gets much easier. And who know you might even get preggers naturally !

Don't be scared about going through the fertility treatments, honestly they are not that bad. It could be as easy as getting you on clomid or similar medication to ensure you ovulate. I read that managing your weight helps, although PCOS doesn’t help. But women that have a little extra still get pregnant. I’m over 10 -15lb for my ideal weight and the doctor eluded to eating healthier ? definitely does not hurt.

I always had irregular periods and I think I have a mild form of PCOS. Details are in my sig below. After going through 5 medicated fertility cycles and trying all together for over 18 months I got finally a BFP so don't give up your time is coming!!

This forum is great for support so I’m glad you joined

PCOS is generally very easily managed. If you haven't seen any weight loss in the time frame you've set for yourself, talk to your doctor about starting on Metformin or another medication for insulin-resistance. I started taking it in July '07 and since then have lost over 40lb while changing almost nothing about my eating and exercise habits. I've even had a baby in that time period. It's true that simply losing weight has the possibility of dramatically reducing your PCOS symptoms, but don't feel like you HAVE to wait until you're in the ideal weight range for your height.

I also recommend this book: Amazon.com: A Patient's Guide to PCOS: Understanding--and Reversing--Polycystic Ovary Syndrome: Walter Futterweit: Books It's a very good source of information on all the ways that PCOS affects our bodies and health, not just the reproductive aspects. There really is a lot more than just how it affects your ovaries that you should know. The book can be a little academic in parts.. there were a few places I had to reread a couple times before I fully understood what I was reading.. but overall, it's a very good book.

If your only diagnosis is PCOS, you should feel positively about your chances of conceiving with minimal medical intervention. I was able to get pregnant once with only Clomid, which turned out to be ectopic, and once with a combination of Clomid and injections. The most important thing is to see a doctor who makes you feel comfortable and who isn't going to only fixate on the weight issue. Overweight women have perfectly healthy pregnancies and babies all the time. And stop thinking about leaving your husband over this.. it's not likely that he married you for your ovaries and uterus If he's worth having, he'll be there to support you through all the ups and downs. Best of luck to you!
