Arrow Starting Metformin Today, Any Advices?

Hi everyone.
Well, after two failed IUIs my RE is putting me on Metformin. My instructions are, take 1 pill (500mg) with my heaviest meal for 1 week then take 1 pill twice a day with meals there after.

For those who are taking Metformin how is this working out for you? Did you or do you have side effects from it?

Any advice and/or past experiece with it would be great.

I'm suppose to start taking them today, which I'll take at night with dinner.
Wish me luck!

Good luck!! Here are a couple of good threads about it:

Benefits of metformin

Rethinking Metformin . . .

Glumetza/Metformin

I've posted this in a different thread, but hopefully it helps some. Make sure to eat it w/food:

I have PCOS and insulin resistance, as well. Metformin has many benefits:
  • It can induce ovulation in those with PCOS.
  • It may help in weight loss.
  • It reduces the risk of miscarriage (this was a pretty strong link).
  • It can reduce your risk of gestational diabetes.

If you are just starting Metformin, there's a decent chance that you will experience some nausea and possibly vomiting/diarrhea in the first few weeks. I threw up every day. Your body will get used to it eventually, but I found that taking a couple of bites of food, the Metformin, and then consuming the majority of my meal helped with the nausea.

I was on metformin for quite a while and have just started taking it again to try for number two. I am having all the same symptoms this time as last. The first few days I feel terrible and then gradually I feel better. I found it best to eat my meal and then take the medicine (to have a good coating). Sometimes if I feel sick I make myself eat (which is tough when you are nausious) but usually not long after I make myself eat the nausia goes away.
I would start taking on a Saturday so you have the weekend to feel miserable before you have to be productive at work on Monday.

Thanks for the reply ladies!
Tomorrow I'll have to up my dosage from 500mg to 1000mg. I have to tell you, it has not been as bad as I was expecting, but it has not been a breeze either.
I have had some nausea and diarrhea (sorry for the TMI).....I had some mild stomach pain but nothing bad.
I really hope that taking it twice a day won't make things worse.
Let me ask you tough, have you guys noticed any changes since you've been taking Met?
I'm a little overweight and was wondering if that would help me loose some weight or not.
Let me know please!
