Metformin is for insulin resistance (usually) which is often a symptom of PCOS. It should help regulate your hormones and for some women with PCOS, will regulate your cycle too. The Clomid is to help you grow follicles, one or more of which will release an egg when you ovulate. These 2 meds are pretty standard as a beginning treatment for PCOS-related infertility.

Thanks Persephone1881

Thank you so much for clearing that up. Will metformin help in weight loss? I have been trying to lose weight but it is so hard.

It very well could. With insulin resistance, sugars that you eat get turned straight to fat instead of having the opportunity to get used for energy first. The metformin should help your body process the sugar making it easier for you to lose weight. Once I started metformin and then Synthroid for my hypothyroidism a couple months later, I was able to lose weight slowly but steadily doing nothing other than slight modifications to my eating habits, like chosing whole wheat bread over white.

Ok.. a little gross... but, the downfall I had with metformin, is every time I ate something that wasn't healthy, I had diarrhea. I think my stomach reaction is what made me loose the weight.

That goes away after awhile for most women.
