I have been taking Metformin for a few weeks and now am up to 1500mg a day. Just wondering if anyone has tried taking all 3 pills with the same meal (I was thinking dinner because it's my largest meal)? If you have were there more side effects?

hi. i take 2000mg (4 pills) every night with dinner. however, i'm on the extended release tablets and they've never affected my stomach. the regular kind gave me horrible stomach problems, however. so i would say it depends on which type you take. good luck!

Hi guys,
I'm on 1500 mg a day of Metformin and I've found what works best for me is to take 1 with lunch and take 2 before I go to bed. That way I sleep through the worst of the nausea. It took awhile to find the best times to take it to control the GI problems. Have you found there is a true advantage to Metformin? I feel like I'm just taking it because the doctor said so, but don't know if there has been a benefit.

I take 2000 and I take 2 with breakfast and 2 after supper/before bed. It was a bit easier on my stomach to do it that way at first.

I also take 1500 mg at dinner. My first set hurt my stomach and we realized that they had not given me the extended release tablets. Once I switched I have had no problems unless I take them to far after dinner and don't drink enough water with them.

my own question about Metformin
I have only been taking Metformin for a week now, and just today doubled my dose. I'm now taking 1000mg/day, and next week will go up to 1500. So far the side effects have been uncomfortable but not horrible. It is definitely forcing me to make some better choices as to what I eat, which of course is not a bad thing. My fourth IUI will be tomorrow, and if it does not work, we will go on to IVF, but I do not currently qualify for IVF because of my weight. So while I do have PCOS, the main reason I'm on Metformin is for it to help me lose some weight.
Anyway, it just occurred to me 2 days ago that I've been drinking an awful lot of water ever since I started the Metformin. I have not seen increased thirst or dry mouth listed as a side effect, but I wondered if anyone else has experienced this. I'd appreciate hearing anyone's experience on any aspect of Metformin, as I was a little reluctant to take it. Thanks!
