Here goes...

We have been trying to consieve a child for almost 4 years now. Starting in 2008 I went through 6 rounds of clomid. Was tested for PCOS but the tests came back negative (that I didn't have it). Started on Metformin and Femera and my Doc went to a specialist and re-evaluated me. Turns out I have PCOS. Went through 4 additional rounds of Metformin and Femera. All 10 cycles were every 2 weeks getting an ultrasound to check on the folicles, with an IUI every month. Spending about $700 each time.

I was told that if I lose 10% of the weight I would have better chances. I have lost almost 20% still with no result. I was also told to reduce the stress in my life. So I quit my job and am now working part-time (now can't afford the $700 a month), and have reduced the stress by about 90%. We were told the next step would be an IVF. $10,000-15,000 a shot. Definately can't afford that. I have basically been told that I will not be able to bear my own kids (welcomes new stress, but at least I now know)...

We talked it thoroughly with each other (my husband and I) and we decided to start taking Foster care classes. We are currently foster parents to two little boys ages 3 and 2.

We still want to have our own kids and still would welcome the surprise of getting pregnant, but we have learned not to hold our breath on it. We will be looking to adopt probably 2 kids (if we have no success) in the next 3 to 4 years.

That is my story and if you have any advice I welcome it with open arms.

It sounds like you've been down a long, frustrating road. Did they tell you the exact reasons why you wouldn't be able to bear children? If PCOS is your only issue, why is IVF your only option?

I really admire you taking in foster children! I have always wanted to. I hope everything works out with you guys. I now the waiting is tough but hopefully everything works out in the next 3 or 4 years! Good luck!

IVF isn't our only option but it is the next step that we were told we could/should do. We were told that we had a slim to no chance because of the PCOS.

Did you ovulate one the meds you were taking?
