PCOS and weight loss

Hi Everyone,

I've read how women with PCOS can help regulate their cycle and ovulation by losing weight. Well, I've been dieting and exercising and have managed to lose about 14lbs, but there hasn't been any change in my cycles.

Has anyone else had success regulating their cycles and ovulation by losing weight? If so, how much weight did you have to lose before you noticed a change in your cycle?

I'm so frustrated and just ready for a and to be

I've been dealing with PCOS for several years and I was told that as little as 10% of weight loss could help regulate your cycle. The only problem is that with PCOS loosing weight is extremely difficult to lose weight. I have loss about 12 lbs since October 2011, but its hard to keep the weight off. My cycles have not regulated since the weight loss, but the exercise has helped with the stress. Good Luck.

I have lost weight many times and have never regulated my cycle. The last time I lost 44lbs prior to ttc my DD and still no cycle. I think that it depends on each person. I alsp agree with the PP losing weight with PCOS is very difficult and also difficult to maintain. Some ladies ahve had great sucess with lob carb low sugar diets!

Acupuncture over the last 3 months has regulated my cycle. The last 2 have been exactly 30days and started w/out drugs. I was skeptical but swear by it now

BEAR,

I have PCOS and I actually lost 36 lbs from August to November. It was pretty easy for me actually. I followed a low carb-low sugar diet. When October 16th hit, I actually got a period for the first time in years on my own. I didn't get another one though because by Thanksgiving I actually went back to eating bad and I haven't gotten another period since. I am so mad at myself too because I gained about 13 lbs back since. I am trying real hard to get back into the routine but it's hard! I wish you the best of luck and I really think if I didn't get off of track I would have gotten another period.

I have been doing weight watchers since jan 2 2012 and i have almost lost 30 pounds. It is so easy to do i still eat a lot of the same things i was before but i am getting my fruit veggies and water in and not drinking a lot of soda. Maybe once a week. My doc said any weight loss is good and can help.

I've lost nearly 45lbs but it has not brought back my cycles. I haven't had a period on my own since I was 12. I did notice that I responded better to the medication after the weight loss though. Before the weight loss I couldn't get a good size follicle for the life of me and after I got three... but it could just be a coincidence because this last cycle I did take a higher dose of medication.

Hi Bear, the rule of thumb is 10% reduction in weight. Much easier said than done for me though. i was diagnosed with PCOS about 5 yrs ago but have had the symptoms since I was about 17 or 18. I took BCP and Glucophage Metformin to regulate cycles but stopped taking them after a while, now that DH and I are serious about having a baby i have started researching the best natural ways to conceive.

Basic findings were....
10% reduction of weight
Regular exercise
Low GI diet
6 small meals/snacks a day

I also read some articles with regards to Homeopathy and decided to go see a Homeopath that specialises in fertility. He put me on some meds and 1 week later, AF(after over 1 year).

I guess its a waiting game now to try and see if this helps regulation of my cycles.
