Nina,

Sorry about your struggles. Are you seeing an RE (reproductive endocronoligst)? or just a regular OB/GYN? It sounds like you need a good fertility doctor who will do more than put you on the pill. Many women are able to treat their PCOS and have babies with proper treatment.

Also diet is important with PCOS and there are many books and websites on this. There is a book on insulin resistant diet. Sorry I don't know the name but you can Google it.

Many women take Metaformin to help with PCOS. Have you talked to your doctor about this? Has your doctor mentioned using fertility drugs to help you to ovulate?

Talk to your doctor about putting you on Metformin (brand name is Glucophage). It's also for Type II Diabetes, but studies have shown it helps with insulin resistance in women with PCOS, too. If the dosage is right, it will help you to ovulate correctly.

Just a warning, though, you'll have to go on an insulin resistant diet, and when you first begin taking the medication, it will most likely cause you to have an upset stomach and diarrhea for a while until your body gets used to it.

Good luck!!

I, too, had problems with AF, actually I never got her. When I was 18 the dr put me on BCP to regulate and cause cycles. You should go to an RE and start off on Clomid. The dr. will monitor to see if you ovulate. Generally the dr will also want to do a semen analysis of your hubby to make sure all is well on his end. If the Clomid dosen't work, you will probably go on to injectables. If you are overweight, generally it will help to lose at least 10% of your body weight. Good luck and keep us updated. If you have more questions, feel free to private message me through this website.

Nina, I am new to pcos although I have had problems with my period (or lack of) forever. I went through years of dr.s saying that all my hormone levels were normal so there was no reason for me not to have a period. They would just leave it at that. I finally found a dr that diagnosed me but said that until I was ready to conceive I didn't need to start any kind of treatment. I am now seeing a specialist and she put me on metformin 500mg twice a day. I had diarhea for about two weeks but it finally stopped. I go back to the dr July 7 to see if the met is helping and to see if I am ovulating yet. Sorry this went so long. Any way my best advice to you would be to find a great dr that you can ask a hundred questions and feel like you are getting straight forward answers and one that will keep you involved and informed with what your options are.

Nina Hi and welcome to the forums!! I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 28 and am currently36 and Pregnant after ttc for over 3 years. I second what every one has contributed regarding a really good dr. You definitely want one that will closely monitor your cycles through blood tests and ultrasound, these are the tried and true methods of finding out exactly what is going on. Make sure you ask alot of questions, don't leave an appointment wondering what the heck the dr was talking about. Good Luck!!!!
