Should I?

My husband and I took time off from TTC to adopt our son and now we are thinking of starting treatment again in 6 months. The doctors will probably recommend IVF. My question is what can I do now to get my body ready? I am a little overweight, I could use to lose about 20 pounds, should I try and lose it before beginning treatment? Best of luck to everyone!!!!

I heard that if you lose 10% of your body weight for IVF there are much higher success rates. Good luck in whatever decision you make!!

I think the best approach would be to focus on moderate exercise and a healthy diet of whole unprocessed foods, minimal sugar, etc. I would imagine that the weight will drop naturally without "dieting" if you are eating this way and exercising. In preparation for IVF, I would consider yoga (there is a good video called Yoga 4 Fertility) and meditation to ready your body and mind.

Good luck to you!

weight loss

My RE told me I could continue to loose weight even after I get pregnant. He said the baby will take what it needs.

Bottom line, ask your doc.

Good luck.

Karenanne,

I started Weight Watchers before my first IVF cycle. I ended up loosing 20% of my body weight. My RE said I did the best thing for myself and for the process. They also told me to continue doing what I'm doing, that if I am pregnant, the baby will take what it needs, as Gemmabean, said. Also, putting your energy into doing something healthy for yourself, takes your mind off of the whole IVF process. At least it did for me. Good Luck!

Dawn,
I do WW also Due to PCOS it is very difficult for me to loose weight, a common side effect of PCOS. I've lost about 5% and don't plan on telling WW I'm pregnant, when it happens, they don't "allow" pregnant women to participate, should be up to the individual.

Congrats on the loss!
