Question I need some advice!

Hi again. I have some questions for anyone who will listen and answer. I just don't know what to do! Here is a little background (and I'll try to make it as short and sweet as possible!):

DH and I have been married since July 15, 2000. I was on bc from then until December 2004. Regular af, every 28 days, 5 days of flow every time.

DH and I have been ttc#1 since December 2004. Regular cycles, 28-31 days each, 5 days of flow every time. Until July 2005, when af was absent (and I was sure I was pregnant!) my ob/gyn diagnosed me with overactive pituitary gland (after blood draw and MRI) and put me on meds to lower the prolactin levels. (We thought that was the infertility issue.) Kept ttc. Did blood draws every 3 months to check the prolactin levels and eventually stopped the medication altogether because it lowered my levels too much. Still on maintainence blood draws. In the meantime, af is very inconsistent. I've had to go on provera 3 times to induce af. (I went from January to May w/o af.)

Had annual appt with ob/gyn on May 3, 2006. She noticed some signs of PCOS that had not been apparent before (because of the bc pills!), and said that she wanted to test me for PCOS after I was done w/my round of Provera.

Had af May 15-20 after provera.

Had a very light af June 6-11 (can't remember if it was bright red or not) after using a natural progesterone cream.

Then used a natural progesterone cream days 10-20 a
and missed a dosage of the cream, so I had some spotting on day 21. Started counting again on June 26 as CD1.

Did OPK last "cycle" and again this cycle (starting June 15). No O, according to the test.

Now, yesterday and today, I have had bright red spotting, then nothing. It just comes for a couple of hours and disappears for the rest of the day. What is going on? Any ideas?

I think the most frustrating thing about all of this is that my body seems to be/get confused, which just messes with my mind!

I'm sorry to be so detailed, but I figured it would help if you had the whole (abbreviated) story. Please let me know if there's anything I left out. I don't know if I should call my ob/gyn or not. Should I just try to be more patient and see what happens over the next few days?

Thanks so much for reading. Any thoughts/suggestions/advice are invited!

Dani

Hi Dani,
I have PCOS and I would get regular period on BCP's as well as provera but no ovulation. It sounds to me like you have your AF but maybe do not ovulate. Have they done a sonogram to look at your ovaries and check for PCOS?

Dani,
I'd request some further testing to determine whether your PCOS does exist or if it's something more. Since it's been more than one full year I'd also recommend moving from your OB to a reproductive endocrinologist, their study and knowledge of the subject is deeper than your OB. It's also a big deal to educate yourself. Spend hours online looking up your situation and see where you fall. There is no such thing as too much information and it's always better to KNOW then to GUESS. Hope this helps.
