What happens to us PCOS when it is time for menapause?
I have a question, does anyone know if you have PCOS will you have bad symptons when it is time for you to go through menapause? Just curious if anyone has asked or know anyone who has gone through it? I have not read anything about it, I hope that the symptons wouldn't be as bad- if you don't ovulate/get your period regularly now.

I have no idea what happens. I just wanted to ask you tho if you are on Metformin for your PCOS. Women with PCOS have a much higher pg success rates when on Met, so I just wanted to be sure that your RE was on top of that.

I am not on met.
No, I am not. I have been diagosed with PCOS bc I don't ovulate regularly. I have been told that nothing else is wrong with me- I don't have insulin or thyroid problems and I am not overweight (5'4- 122 lbs). I thought that you took Met. if you had insulin or thyroid problems- is that right? I have a meeting with my current RE tommorrow to discuss next steps- that is actually one of my questions why I am not on it. Do you know what MET is supposed to help with?

There are a lot of misconcpetions about PCOS out there and it's unfortunate that REs are not more current on their research. I also have atypical PCOS, not overweight, none of the typical symtpoms I even ov'd regulary every month, my insulin levels were perfect. But even for those of us with atypical PCOS we need to be on Metformin b/c having PCOS causes poor eqq quality, problems with implantation, and a much higher chance of m/c. Wth PCOS if you do IVF you will likely produce a large number of eggs, but they will be low quality w/out Met. and you will have a poor chance of implantation. Met helps eqq quality b/c it balances the hormones. I would highly recommened Googling Metformin PCOS and fertility as there are some really good articles out there that explain all of this and you could bring these with you to your RE appt. I would just hate for this to be overlooked for you. 3 of my REs missed my dx but I switched to a new RE who leaves no stone unturned and he prescribed me Met and I think it maybe have a large role in my good response to stims.
Good luck to you!

Thanks for the info!
Yes, I am definately going to ask my RE about this tommorrow. I am also going to see another RE next month and will ask him the same question. The issue that I have is that I don't ovulate normally- I wonder if taking met. will help me ovulate on my own? It is so frustrating! I just wish I knew/understand what causes me not to ovulate/menstrate on my own, I am looking for any answers... so I am definately going to look more into why I am not on Met. I did ask my obgyn back several months ago and she said that I wasn't diabetic -so I didn't need to be on it. So I thought that was that.... I will see what my RE says

Met causes MANY women to begin to ovulate on their own since it addresses the underlying hormonal imbalances that are causing anovulation. I am baffled as to why your RE would not have put you on this. I have seen several accounts (including from my RE) where women are put on Met to prepare for IVF and then they spontaneously get pg before IVF! It usually takes several months to begin to ovulate, but there is NO reason for you to not be on it (in my non doctor opinion). If they blow you off please please do your own research and see what you think and provide copies of the studies that you find.

Ok, so the dr gave me a prescription for metaforim. It will be interesting to see what happens (if anything) when I take it. I have never been on it before. Was told by my obgyn that I didn't need it (because my insulin levels were fine). So now after clomid and 3 cycles of injectables my RE says that I can go on it before doing my IVF. Interesting huh?
