metformin and working the night shift

Hi all,
I'm new here. I'm 28 and recently diagnosed with PCOS. I've had 2 failed IUI cycles with clomid.
My doctor last week prescribed metformin for me and my partner and I are taking some time off to change our diet and let my body get adjusted to the metformin.

I'm a nurse and work both day and night shifts, sometimes going back and forth between the two within a short period of time. I find that my eating gets very disrupted when I work nights and I'm a little worried as to how whether metformin will be effective with this schedule. I'm going to be working up to 500mg three times a day.

Does anyone here have any experience with being on metformin, trying to eat healthy and regular and working the night shift at the same time? Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated!

I have been on metformin but not working shifts and I didn't try to change my eating habits however I did find when i was on it that I stopped craving sweet foods, I don't know if it does that or if it was just coincidence. I had a terrible time on metformin. I was fine with 2 500 tablets but everytime I had the 3rd one, I'd end up in the toilet constantly no matter what I ate before hand. I never tried the slow release ones but apparently they stop that problem. I hope you find someone that can help. Good luck!

I have a regular sleeping and eating schedule, but I took the extended release version of Metformin and never had a problem at all. I definitely recommend trying that! Best of luck!!

Colleen?

Hi Colleen - I know this is an older post but I was just wondering how you did with the night shifts while on metformin? I just started the met myself and also work night shifts a few times a week. I haven't worked one yet since starting the metformin but am a bit worried about when to take it and how it will affect my cycles. Are you still taking it??

Thanks so much,
Alicia
