PCOS and Clomid?
I have recently been diagonosed with PCOS after my first round 50mg of clomid did not work. My doctor increased my dosage to 100mg to try this next time. I am little freaked out about this and I am looking for advise. Am I going to be able to have a baby?

I was diagnosed with PCOS about a year and a half ago. A few months after I was diagnosed, my RE put me on metformin and then a little later, once the metformin had had time to get into my system and start working (about 6 weeks) he put me on 100mg of Clomid. I got pregnant on the 3rd cycle like that but it was ectopic. My current pregnancy was achieved using a combination of Clomid and Follistim.
Are you seeing an OB/GYN or an RE? If you're not seeing an RE, you should definitely think about switching. PCOS is a hormonal/endocrine disorder, not a reproductive one and OBs just aren't usually as effective in treating it. Don't give up hope. Especially after only one failed cycle. I know how easy it is to get discouraged now that you're undergoing treatment.. I was completely devastated when my first Clomid cycle resulted in nothing. But it is absolutely possible to get pregnant with PCOS.. it just takes a little more work. Hang in there and keep faith. |

Thanks for the information. I am keeping my fingers crossed for round two of the clomid. This is all new to me and I appreciate all your stories and advise.

I was on 6 cycles of clomid (I also have PCOS) and it never worked for me, I never produced more than one good follie while I was on it. I went from 50 mg to 200mg!! We had to move on to injectibles and even with that I never produced more than 2 good follies. However, on my 2nd round of injectibles we conceived our son!!

Hi, I am in the exact same boat. Although I haven't officially been dx with PCOS, my Ultra Sound on CD13 after my first round of clomid indicated that I had many follicles but no mature ones. My progesterone level came back at 1.0 so I am on provera (again) to get my period and start all over. I am feeling blue. Supposed to go see the doc when AF arrives. I am thinking I will ask for a referral to a specialist at that time. Best wishes to you!

I'm sorry that the Clomid isn't working for you ladies as you expect it to. I know how frustrating and depressing it can be when you finally start treatment and you still only get one line at the end of the month. The amount of time it takes varies from person to person. You should also know that about 20% (I think that's right) of women never respond to Clomid. You might want to talk to you doctor about Femara if you want to stay with oral meds. It has the same effect (ovulation induction) but since it's a different medicine, it might work better than Clomid. If your insurance covers it, you might also want to consider moving up to injectibles. They're not nearly as bad as they sound and a lot of women have much better results with them. And definitely switch to an RE if you can.. they are SO much better at treating women with PCOS since they are endocrinologist and PCOS is a metaboloc/endocrine disorder, not a reproductive one.

Clomid+Injectables worked for me.Currectly in the 2ww. Just an opinion ,ask your RE if you can do clomid+injectables. |
