hashimoto thyroiditis and pregnancy

Hi,
now that the initial euphoria has faded..I have my whole list of concerns..the foremost one being how harmful can my thyroid problem be to my pregnancy ? I'm taking medications, so its not untreated, but I'm doing nothing more. Should I regulate my levels more closely now? What precautions I need to take as far as my thyroid issue is concerned. I read somewhere that hypothyroidism could lead to miscarriage and also some brain disorders.I'm scared now. Any experiences, advice or anything for that matter is welcome.

Also, any precautions/ to-do and not to-dos that I should know of?

Thanks a lot!

Yes your levels need to be monitored. My endocrinologist told me that the moment I got my that I needed to get blood drawn to check my levels. My meds have been uped twice since getting my . I was getting my levels checked every 6 weeks since getting pregnant. This past time my levels stayed the same to I don't have to go back for 8 weeks. When I had my two m/c I was not medicated...but was told that my thyroid was the reason for my m/c. Before getting pregnant my TSH was .6 and at 4 weeks it was 2.7. You definelty want to get your levels checked!

Congratulations on your !

Thanks so much for your response. I've got my blood work done. waiting for the test results. However, it was me who suggested my RE that I should get my thyroid levels checked. Should I contact/depend on my endocrinologist instead of my RE for getting my thyroid regulated?

I also have Hashimotos, I did not have any problems with my pregnancy and I now have a happy & healthy 4 yr old. My levels were checked every month and I only needed my meds upped once. When you are released to your OB, he will most likely check it often. There isn't anything that you should/shouldn't do other than ask your Dr if you have any concerns. I'm sure you will have a healthy 9 months!

Thanks! I think it would be a good idea to get my levels checked and regulated.I always thought thyroid was a harmless little problem..now I know I was wrong!

I guess it really doesn't matter as long as you are having it monitored throughout your pregnancy. I know my OB asks me every appointment. So whether you go to your endicrinologist, RE or OB it doesn't really matter as long as you are being monitored.
