TEF tracheoesophageal fistula condition

I just gave birth to a beautifull baby girl. Till she was born, no one new why i had excesive amniotic fluid. An hour after she was born Drs realised she had TEF condition, it does causes for amniotic fluid to be increased, since baby can't swallow it. My baby had a surgey when she was 1 day old, she had a lick and carrently we are waiting or a week to pass to see if it will hill on its own. I read lots about TEF on line, but i am looking for parents who had children with the same condition so they could let me know what to expect and how to take a good care of my baby.

Dream2bemommy,
First off congratulations!!!!!!!!! .
As for the TEF, I have taken care of lots and lots of kiddos with TEF, but only at the hospital. As for her outcome, it seems like the kids with the bigger defects had the hardest time. Did she have esophogeal atresia? How big was her fistula. I would ask your surgeon how tight the repair is. Most kids do pretty well if it is an isolated fistula. The more complex kids with EA as well as other anomolies have a harder time. I'm sure they will want to follow her airway and growth for some time. You might want to find a pediatrician that has experience with TEF. The first thing I am curious about is, is she at a children's hospital or university facility? This can make a big difference in her recovery. If not, I would ask to be transferred, just my opinion. I know this is an extremely difficult time for you and I wish I could be of more help.

Thank you girls for your reply. Sorry if I’m not answering as often as I should. I spend lots of time at the hospital, next to my baby, she needs me, and I need her.
Tko 6666, if I’m correct, my baby has a type C TEF. The Dr sad that repair was very tight, the Dr. expects it to leak. And the Dr. was right. Baby was fine for 6 days after the surgery, and then they decided to remove all the tubes and start bottle feeding (since swallow test was good). But by the evening things weren't so good, and by the next day Drs discovered the leak. So now we are waiting for a week to pass to see if the leak will heal on its own. Her chest tube still has some liquid coming out of it, very little though, yet I think if something coming out that means she still didn't heal yet. I pray and hope my baby will recover soon. I read that babies with this condition usually have something else going on with them health wise, but so far Dr didn't find anything else wrong. Please, Lord, let my baby recover and be a healthy and happy throughout her life. Additionally, I believe our baby is in very good care she has one of the best pediatric surgeons.(thats what i was told by other Drs)
