First miscarriage- what to expect????

Hello,

I just found out yesterday at my third beta that my numbers were lower and the pregnancy was not going to survive. I had awoken with horrible pains and pressure. I had been spotting for a few days which turned to red blood. I went to my RE and he wasn't concerned even though I had to practically crawl into the office. I went home after that and just laid on the couch and cried most of the day because of the pain. I couldn't pee because it hurt too bad. The doctor called later to say my number had decreased and to come back next week for more b/w to make sure the number was going down more. He never told me what to expect with a miscarriage, what I can do or what to watch for that may need more medical attention. I am very sad and confused!

I am only 5 weeks along. Can someone let me know what to expect? Is back pain and pain under your ribs when you breathe normal? I would appreciate any advise or similiar experiences.

Thanks- Kelly

Oh, sweetie... so sorry to hear you're going through this!

With a miscarriage, you can expect about what it feels like to have your period times 5... you'll have a lot of cramping and bleeding as well as the back pains... difficulty breathing tends to come as a reaction to the pain. Take whatever you would normally take for period pains to ease your discomfort. And DON"T miss your next b/w appt. They need to check that number and make sure it's going down so they can rule out ectopic pregnancy (pregnancy anywhere outside the uterus). An ectopic won't double normally but will continue to increase your HCG levels... and could be life-threatening. Based on your situation and what you've described, I don't believe you are experiencing an ectopic pregnancy but it's always better to be safe than sorry.

Again, so sorry you're facing this right now. It's never an easy situation. Good luck!

Both mine were much easier physically then a period. There was alot of bleeding and passed clots when i had to go to the restroom but other than that not very much pain. It is the emotional battle i had the hardest time with. I am sorry you are in pain and i hope it betters for you. You will be in my prayers. Other than the fact that you can NOT wear tampons and do NOT take bathes only showers it is just like a period.
