jana - i have struggled with the whole control thing as well, as a teacher i control every minute of every class period and i am such a type A personality. this whole journey through infertility has proven to me how little control i actually have and that has been a hard pill to swallow. i hope that you find peace in your journey

erin - i have not used that prodical, however, after you posted that it should bring you more eggs so that you have some embies for freezing, i did some research and i am not really sure about it. both times i have had over 10 eggs fertilize but i only have two low quality embies frozen, i am not really sure that a higher egg count guarantees a higher quality to freeze. good luck and trust in faith that it will work

as for me i am moving right along, i have in-services this week and i should get the results of my the karotype at the end of next week, and if they do come back as something wrong it looks like i am going to be spending another $5,000 on PGD, the cost of everything is just becoming very overwhelming right now, but i know that it is going to be worth it in the end. i hope that you all have a wonderful monday and enjoy the last couple of weeks of summer

Jamie, we hopefully will be doing the kayotyping this week. Our RE told us that no matter what the test shows, we should consider doing PGD no matter what. I'll get DH to write why she said that was important, because I can't figure out the right way to phrase it. Are we hoping they find something or not? I need to know which way to pray!!!

Jana & Jamie (and whoever else knows), I googled PGD so I know what that is, but what is the karyotype test you are doing? Our genetic testing showed trisomy of chromosome 16.

I asked my RE about the pre-genetic testing if we do another IVF and he said he didn't think it was worth spending the money on it for us because last time we had so few embryos by day 5 transfer. What do you think? Should I push for it?

Also, can you tell me more on the karyotype? When do you do that?

Hey everyone, been a while.

Nice to see what everyone is up to. I has been 2 weeks since my d and C and it has been harder than i expected. I have been doing better emotionally the last couple of days, but unexpected things set me off. My friend has her US photo as her myspace pic, and I just couldn't stand it. I wish time would move faster so I can get over it.

Next step is wait for my period, and IVF in November. probably need the time to recover and be ready to do it again. We are going to use follistim again and increase the dose and I think decrease the lupron. We will see. And as far as the genetic testing, my doc talked me out of it. I am glad I did not do it, i just want to move on.

Love to you all
Jen

i would make sure that you do some research before you spend the money because it is approx $5000 a cycle. and from what my RE told me that the current research is showing that it is not necessary for everyone, it was the norm about 4 or 5 years ago but they are seeing that it is not as helpful now. they is some ideas that if an embryo gets to a 5 day transfer than it will be healthy enough.

i would get the karotyping done, because if you or your dh has something wrong with your chromosomes than there is a 75% chance that your embryos will also have something wrong. statistically it should only be 50%, but they have found that it happens more frequently, so i would do the karotyping before making a decision and i would also get a second opinion about getting PGD if there is nothing wrong with you...i hope that this made sense...

Missy - karotyping is to check out your and DH's chromosome to see if there is something wrong. for example my friend is normal but approx 8 out of 10 of her eggs gives two Xs, so the baby is abnormal and she miscarries, she has had 9 miscarriages, i can't even imagaine. you can have karotype done once your beta is down to zero and it takes 4-6 weeks to get the results back, that is what i am waiting for now

also if you don't have a lot of embies that make it to day 5 because they do the testing on day 3, it may not be worth the risk

good luck sweetie and if you have any more questions let me know, i will try to help

jen - i am so sorry that you have been having a difficult time but not only do you have to deal with your loss right now your body is still dealing with all the pregnancy hormones, but i agree looking forward to another cycle has helped me and i look forward to hearing that it has worked for you.

you are all in my thoughts and prayers

Good morning everyone!!

Jen, the first two weeks after D&C were the hardest for me. After that I got in better shape (with emotional stimulus). I started to think: "this could be me in some months". I am glad you are already starting to think about November. You are right, you have to heal before that.

Jamie and Jana, very interesting conversation about testing. I hope that with those tests your odds get a loooootttt better.

CONTROL ISSUES: I fought them for a while and then realize that is better to accept that I don't have any control. Reading "A New Earth" (E.Tolle) and doing the online classes helped me a lot.

The weekend was nice. Yesterday we went to see "Body Worlds". The exhibit shows different bodies that have been plastinated and also organs. It is interesting. We saw some fetus and it is amazing the development during the first weeks. After that, we had to fast forward and move on to another room because we started feeling sad. Afterwards we had a nice lunch and went to visit friends. We have not done that in so many months. If felt great just to hang out and chat.

I am getting ready for another week of work. In these days we have to define if DH and I will be relocating in the next months. Yes, something more to think about. I am trying not to worry about and have left it to God, destiny, life.....

I hope everybody has a great week and continues in their healing process!

Jamie, I feel pretty confident in our RE. I think that ever RE has a different opinion about everything. Our RE told us that PGD would help select embryos for transfer that would not survive in the uterus do to abnormal chrosomes. No matter what the karyotyping says, you can still produce abnormal embryos. They also told us that if we don't have enough survive to day 5, we could elect not to do the testing since it is so pricey. It's a hard call because there's no gaurantee that if they put a perfect one in that it will grow, but I think I'd rather take that chance then go through this heartache again. I'm going to ask more about it when we go back on Thurs.

thanks claudia and historyteach! I am better today. Yeah I would say 2 weeks the whole process kicked my butt. Today makes two weeks. I am going to have a TLC day all for myself. I am working hard to heal.

Just wondering from everyone, when and if you are going to do IVF again?? November seems so far away for me. And how many more times are you willing to try? I guess that is hard to decide at this time. I can't imagine doing this a third time!

have a good day everyone

Jenn,
We did the Shared Risk plan where we get 3 fresh and 3 frozen. At this point, I don't know how far we'll go, but we are planning to do it again. To me IVF is like playing the slot machines..........put your money in and pull, maybe you win, maybe you don't, but you think the next time is going to be the big one..........how do you finally give up??? I'm glad you are having a "all about me day." I love those.

Hi girls!!

I love one of those ALL ABOUT ME days!! My partners gave me a gift certificate for a spa and I am planning when to go and get pampered.

As far as IVF: we will try one more time in January/February. I am starting to feel more strength and hope as every week goes by. Also, I have started visualization and meditation again. I just want to keep the stress levels in a manegeable level.

So, what is everybody taking?

I am taking my Pre-natals and thinking about starting Royal Jelly (for me and DH). What do you think?

Hey There

Hi Ladies,

I am glad to hear everyone is doing better. I am still waiting for AF to arrive...I have had some spotting for 4 days so I know she is ready to show!

Jen, we are planning on trying IVF again in October. I thought the wait seemed like so long, but with the BC pills, i at least feel like I am making progress. I guess I can start them in about a month. I truly believe that my body needs this rest!

Karotyping is so amazing...can you believe what they are able to do!

Again, I truly appreciate your support and guidance more than you will ever know!

Happy healing,
Erin

jana - i am glad that you have so much confidence in your RE, and i didn't mean for you to second guess them, but with the whole IF thing there is always so much new research and they never really know what is going on, i swear. i read an article that they know more about cattle reproduction than human... wtf? i also have not had alot that have survived until the 5 day transfer so i am not sure how i feel about doing PGD even if the karotyping shows something... it is all just such a risk. i hope that you have a wonderful appointment on thursday and i would appreciate it if you could pass along any new informaiton that she may give you

jenn- we also did shared risk... we get six fresh cycles and then all the frozen until we get pregnant... we have done two so far and are going to do another in september, as for how many more, i think we will do the six if we have to and then move onto adoption or a surrogate, one way or another i am going to be a mother!!! --- i am glad that you are having a better day!!

erin - october is going to be here before you know it and think, that means a july baby and you can have the summer to bond...hope that you are enjoying getting ready for the start of the next school year

chuchu - i am taking extra vitamin E, C & B12, i am using the Royal Jelly and if does nothing for my reproduction, it has done wonders for my digestion... i have also started my birth control, my prenatal and i then will be on baby asprin... if you are not on it, ask your RE about it because it should help with women who have had miscarriages, you usually start it when you begin your lupron regiment... you shoudl see my bedside table, it looks like a pharmacy!

i hope that you all are having a blessed day and that you heal with each sunset, we are such strong women and we will all get our miracles one day

DH went to the family doctor because he had a back pain twice yesterday when peeing. Thankfully, Dr. said he is all good (no infection) but still made him have an ultrasound to kidneys, prostate, etc. And again, thankfully it is nothing related to our IVF struggles.

Yes, I also took baby aspirin in my last cycle.

Jamie, how are you taking the Royal Jelly? Is it from Vitamin Shop? What kind of protocol are you doing this time?

Erin, I am glad you are doing better. Really, October is around the corner.

Jen, believe me.... you will heal a piece by piece. Every day, every week counts! A month ago I was totally devastated and thinking how was I supposed to smile again. And, here I am, the same old me, but wiser (I know myself better after going thru the biggest lost of my life) and more thankful (DH, my family, my friend and YOU ALL are great!).

Who's DH have morphology and motility issues? Do you want to share some tips/recipes?

I have been reading so much about the effects of stress in the function of our reproductive systems (male and female) that I am trying to stay calm every moment.

Jamie, I would be happy to pass along anything new I learn on Thurs. It's funny that you said they know more about cattel than humans.............DH has a Ph.D. in meat science. He explains all of this IVF stuff using cows. LOL!!!

Claudia, I am usually on prenatals w/omegas, baby aspirin, metformin, folic acid, B6, and heparin injections. At this point I am just taking B6, prenatals, and metformin.

Have a good evening ladies. May tomorrow bring you a little closer to happiness again.
