Methotrexate Twice - How Long to TTC Again?

Hi Gals,
I went missing for a while after my ectopic diagnosis. The story is just so involved to recap here...check out my Henfruit blog for details. The more, the merrier!

Anyway, long story short, I was given 2 shots of Methotrexate one week apart and was wondering how long we wait to TTC? I've read anything from 2 menstrual cycles (approx. 3 months) to up to 6 months.

I am not taking any prenatals or folic acid supplements until hCG reaches 5 or less. I'm currently in the 230s, so thinking it will be another 2 weeks before it even gets to that point.

RE isn't really saying what our next step will be...he did mention that if an HSG proves my tube is clear, then we may still TTC with IUI.

Decisions, decisions.

When I had my MTX shot, my doctor said that most of the waiting is to make sure your body can build the Folic Acid back up, so he said for me to keep taking my prenatal vitamins- I believe I was able to try again after 2 cycles. (really one normal cycle after the miscarriage period) But I know other doctors have other thoughts on it...

My RE was adament we waiting 3 months before starting up again. Other than that same protocol as what you are saying....I believe I had my hsg about 6 weeks or so after my surgery for the ectopic. I was lucky and my left tube (although it partially ruptured) and was open. As you can see from my sig, IUI + Inj worked for us. And as a bonus, I O'd from the left side...so my bum tube worked!

Good luck...I know taking 3 months off is hard. We really wanted to get started again. Once you get into it, the time starts to move quicker.

The info sheet I got when I had my methotrexate shot said we had to wait 2 months. My nurse said 6 weeks, but I got AF after 5 weeks and was cleared to start my next round of treatment then.

Wow. I must admit, it is really encouraging to see that all of you had ectopics and went on to have healthy pregnancies afterwards. I am so scared that my chances have diminished to the point that this will never happen for us.

I turn 33 in July and am thinking it will be then that we can TTC again. I'm angry and frustrated that this is how it happened. I still can't believe it.

Thanks for your answers. I appreciate it.

I forgot to mention that I was doing IUI, before the ectopic, and decided to go with IVF afterwards because I was scared it would happen again. As frustrating as the ectopic is, it is good to know that the little guys and your eggs can make a baby!!! Good luck!
