Cytotec?

Has anyone taken Cytotec to help move along a natural m/c (natural as opposted to a D & C) after IVF?

My OB says he gives it to women a lot, but my RE says after IVF, it only helps 50% of women and it also causes a lot of cramping.

I am so confused...I don't want to have a D & C but my OB and RE both said that I should give my body 2 weeks to m/c naturally...at that point, OB would give me Cytotec and RE would do a D & C.

Any advice or experience to share?

didn't work for me!!

Hi, I am very sorry for your loss. We are in the same boat, because I just found out that my pregnancy wasn't viable last Monday. I wanted to avoid the d&c. I don't want to create any risk of scarring my uterus! (though, I know that risk is low)

So, my RE prescribed cytotec and said that it works pretty reliably. But it did not work AT ALL for me! I took two doses.

I took 3 days off of work unnecessarily, as it turns out, just waiting to miscarry, and it never happened. I was very frustrated to say the least. It's bad enough to deal with a lost pregnancy!! I was worried about intense cramping too, and all I felt was a "bubbly" or "fluttery" sort of feeling in my lower abdomen... not menstrual like cramps.

Now, the nurse told me that my RE wants to do a D&C. She feels that there is too much risk of infection to wait. I don't know why, because that's not what I hear of other REs saying. But, at the same time, I'd really be happy to get all of this over with!

Good luck. I know it's tough to be in limbo with this. (though you posted this ques. a while ago, so I hope by now it's all over with for you)

October 11, 2008 - Natural miscarriage
(no ultrasound was done until MC, then saw empty sac)

IUI on Nov. 25th -

Starting BCP and Lupron for next cycle

IUI on Feb. 5th -

Have appt. with new RE on Feb. 25th to discuss options, possibly moving on to DE.

He suggested modified cornell protocol, and I flunked. He canceled cycle. But, we got a suprise on that cycle anyway (the old fashioned way!)

At 7 week US, saw that embryo stopped developing at 5 weeks.

Will do three natural cycles, then DE.
