Advice, Wisdom, and Inspiration...after a loss.

Hi,

I found out last week that my betas were dropping and that I was having a miscarriage. Today AF came and I am cramping badly and just feel generally depressed.

I want to do everything I can to prevent this from happening again. Two times is two too many.

Is there ANYTHING I should be testing for? What should I ask my RE at my follow-up that can help me get the tests I need (even if it's just for peace of mind).

I know I will feel better soon, but I want to feel like I am being as proactive as possible. Any advice you can give would be greatly, greatly appreciated.

-Bridget

Hi Bridget - I am so sorry for your loss & know what you're going through as I have recently just had my 3rd m/c. My dh & I have had genetic & chromosomal testing done & it all came back normal. The results I'm waiting for are the ones they did on the fetus when I had my d&e last week. I'm hoping this will provide some answers as to why this keeps happening. My RE said that in my case sine I'm not having a problem implanting it is an embryo issue & IVF would help to eliminate some bad embryos. So this is likely what I'm going to opt to do in the next few months.

I would ask for the RPL work up which includes a large panel of Immune and Blood Clotting tests. You could also ask for an endometrial biopsy, hysteroscopy if you haven't already had one, and if you really wanted to take it that far-CGH the embryos to see if they are chrom. normal or not.

Good luck! I am sorry for your loss, I feel your pain.

Hi Bridget- I was in the June thread. I'm not sure if you remember me. I unfortunately had a similar result. This is my second loss in two months. My RE is now concerned and is doing a full blood work up on me for recurrent loss. I'm wondering what the cost is for this. Because if they find something, it makes me wonder why they don't do this for every woman who does IVF in advance, just in case there is something there that could be prevented. Does that make sense? I would have been happy to test in advance if it would have helped me not lose these babies. I don't know if they'd do it since you've had just one miscarriage but I would press them for it if you can, just for piece of mind. I would hate for you to go through having a positive Beta again and then another loss. I'm so sorry Bridget. I'm hurting so much right now too. I expect AF tomorrow. Not looking forward to that either. My last one was so painful too. Hang in there. I know it's so hard. I wish you all the best and hope you can get some answers.

Rachel-- I am so sorry for your loss. This is also my second miscarriage and I am finding it really hard to rebound and be hopeful. I am so sad and worried and scared because I know there is no way I am stopping trying to get pregnant and that I may have to feel this pain again.

I haven't spoken to my RE but will on July 7th. The IVF nurse said they would do a full thrombophilia work up on me, and maybe other things but that the doctor would let me know.

I have been reading the book Coming to Term by Jon Cohen and it has a lot of good information and stories. The sad thing is that this happens so often BUT that does not mean that we won't be able to carry to term. On the contrary, it means we made it through some major hurdles and got pregnant and that is good news.

I know this doesn't make it easier...hell, it's not even helping me right now. But we're not going to give up, so now we just have to figure out how to get through this hell and stay strong.

AF came for me yesterday. Still heartbreaking.

It's really hard to find people to talk to about this. If you want to PM, I'd be happy to commiserate with you through out this process. I'm going to send you my email through PM.

I wish you the very best.
Bridget
