At my first ultrasound on 2/20, we only saw a gestational sac that measured 3.5mm at 5w3d. Obviously, I am measuring way behind and was told that I am at high risk for miscarrying. I have been on endometrium 200 2x day since last Wednesday and am wondering if the progesterone will delay the inevitable miscarriage? My next ultrasound is next Monday and at that time, if the sac hasn't tripled in size, I will stop my progesterone suppositories. I'm not spotting at all and was wondering if this is because of the progesterone and when I stop taking the suppositories, will that trigger the beginning of the miscarriage? I don't know what to think at this point! I don't hold out much hope at this point because of my history and really want this to be over so that I can move on, but am concerned progesterone is holding up the process. Do you have any experience with progesterone and miscarriage?

I do believe the progesterone can delay the miscarriage but they want to keep you on it till the know for sure that your pregnancy is not successful. I know it is frustrating but it is just a few more days. You never know if things will turn out positive. If you stop your progesterone you will start to bleed and that will cause the miscarriage.

I am sorry you are going through this. Seems like a long road and getting your hopes up every time is hard. Are you doing IVF? Can they add genetic testing to weed out the abnormal embryos before putting them back so you don't have to continue to experience this type of loss?

Hello lahdeedah... I'm so sorry you are going through this. But I've read that prometerium does delay bleeding or inevitable miscarriage... Or you could been like me when I experience my first miscarriage. First sonogram baby was measuring one week behind which I've already read was not a good start and risk of miscarriage was high ( I read that after my d&c so I didn't know till then) so I went out of my obgyn office at 6 weeks ( by my lmp it was supposed to be 7 weeks but I was just as thrilled) and they schedule my next appointment and sonogram in exactly 2 weeks from then...on march 18th 2010 I had this Weird feeling of wanting to get to my obgyn office fast and do a sonogram...I don't know why I felt that at that time ( now I know ) when they did the sonogram heartbeat was not detected and the baby stop growing from that day. What literally killed me inside was that he or she died after I saw him for the first time . In those 2 weeks of waiting for my sonogram I did not bleed in any way nor did I have extreme cramping or discomfort ....I felt pregnant. With hcg levels still high of course I would still feel pregnant. After the dc was performed I got pregnant again after 2 weeks and I was thrilled sadly it happened again but this time I was spotting minimal at the end.

Is your doctor going to run some test? What is his opinion over you losses???

I suggest a loss panel too before you go any further. This will test for chromosomal issues, clotting issues, etc. Your partner should have the tests as well. This is pretty common, and quite expensive, but pales in comparison to ivf, and may give you some answers.

Thank you all for sharing your support and your stories. I really hate that we have to go through stress and turmoil that comes the losses. Just as an update, I went to my RE on Monday, 2/27 and the sac had grown to 7mm and we saw a yolk sac. However, I'm still measuring way behind. I went again today to see if there was any progress, and lo and behold there was a heartbeat of 140bpm. Bad news is that the sac didn't grow from Monday's appt...still at 7mm. To top it off, I started spotting last night and today and am still on the progesterone suppositories. I think this is the beginning of the end, but am so grateful to see the little heartbeat flickering, as this was my first time ever seeing a heartbeat. Although, it's very bittersweet as I feel this little I will be losing this one as well! I go back to the RE on Monday to see if there is any change in the sac size and/or heartbeat. Ugh! I don't have a good feeling about this!
