After my second miscarriage, the doctor ordered a chromosome analysis on the "remnants of my pregnancy." There was no fetus anymore to test, but they sent the tissue from my D&C (including the sac) to the lab. The chromosome analysis showed a normal female. The doctor said they couldn't be 100 percent certain that the tissue wasn't actually my chromosomes. However, when I went to a perinatalogist afterwards, she was certain that the chromosomes detected were from the baby. She said if the "remnants of pregnancy" were tested, then the baby's chromosomes would have been in there, regardless if there was a fetus to test or not.

Is anyone familar with chromosome analysis? How accurate is it?

I had the same exact thing. With my 2nd D&C they analyzed the tissue (there was not a lot) and they said it was normal female chromosomes but when the baby was female there was always a small chance of "contamination" of cells meaning that what they are looking at is your chromosomes rather than fetus'. But my doctor said there was a small chance of this. If tissue is male than there can be no confusion.

I have had that done on 2 of my 4 losses. On my third loss my OBGYN and specialist thought that it looked like downs syndrome from the ultra-sound at 14 weeks. The genetic testing came back trisemy 21 female fetus (most sever form of downs sundrome). The last genetic test I have had to have was just in April and I got the results this week that the fetus was normal and no cause of the miscarriage due to abnormality. I am waiting on my Dr to mail me the results so I can know if it was a boy or girl baby. I believe with my whole heart that they are correct. Keep your chin up it is hard but in the end the tests will give your Dr the information he/she needs to correctly decide the best option to give you that all important child we are all wanting!
