So sad!!

Has anyone been told by their doctors to let nature take its course when having a miscarriage?

I am lucky that my OBGYN moves his schedule and gets me into the hospital for a D&C.. He could do them in his office but wants me to be comfortable. If your Dr told you that I am so sorry. I would change if I were you unless you are really attached to him/her.

I found out November 22 2003 that there was no heartbeat. The doctors told me that it was better to let things happen naturally. I did not miscarry until December 15th. It was the most awlful thing. I lost so much blood and miscarried my first child in the shower at home. I still can't stop thinking
about the images. Does it seem normal for doctors to advise this?

Sadly on here I have heard this more then I thought I would. I have one girl friend here who lost 3 babies and all were natural m/c. She was awed that I had D&C's done. It breaks my heart to hear that, I would ask for the D&C for the reason my Dr said, why go through it twice. Get it over with and try to move on with life. I am so sorry you had to go through that!!!

My doctor told me that it was my choice whether or not I wanted a D&C. With my first miscarriage, I decided to try and let my body handle things naturally. That was the worst mistake! Seeing the blood and tissue in the toilet was very upsetting. I felt like I was slowly losing a little part my child every day and flushing my dreams down the toilet. Then after about 5 or 6 days of that, I starting hemmoraging (sp?) really bad. My doctor was out of the office, so I saw another. He said I was losing far too much blood and immediately sent me to the hospital for an emergency D&C. The whole thing was a terrifying experience! The next time I miscarried, I scheduled a D&C right away. I didn't want to prolong the suffering or go through what I went through before.

I don't think any doctor should advice you to just "let nature take its course." I believe that is a very personal and emotional decision that should be left up to the patient.

Any other thoughts?

I so agree with you. it is enough to loose a baby, to have to wait for it to happen is un reasonable. Sometimes I think Dr.s see this so much they are cold to it and do not think of how it can scar the mother.

My first m/c I just started bleeding and it happened naturally- I was told there was no need for a D&C. The 2nd m/c I demanded a D&C b/c I wanted to have the tissue analyzed.

it's hard

So, my situation is slightly different, being that I was 38 weeks when we confirmed there was no longer a heartbeat. My Dr. asked me if I would rather let nature take it's course, which was a definite negative at that point. I found out at about 2:30 on Monday afternoon and was scheduled for an induction at 7:30 the next morning.

For me, the hardest part was the rest of Monday, still being pregnant but knowing she was no longer living. I can't imagine going through that for almost a month. My heart goes out to you!
