Josee- they can also be composted or thrown in the garbage but they biodegrade a lot faster...like 30 days or something.

Shawna those G diapers are a great idea. It sounds like something I will definately look into. And you WILL have children...I will hear none of that talk young lady!! You are just in a slump right now, but your good streak is coming, hopefully starting with that lottery win we talked about.
Martie, thats amazing you have been stocking up for 4 years, I wish I'd done that. And Jen, you are sooooo right about the chemicals, I hadn't even thought of that. The 'pre-loved' (love that term Heidi) clothes will already have that washed out. Well that settles it...I'm definately stocking up on ebay or garage sales. No Chinese sweat shop chemicals for me! I've just been reading that vaccine website, its really interesting. It says all of us would have had about 10 vaccines and our babies will have 40!! Which is insane and I am not going to do that many, I don't care what the doctor says. I'm almost certain most of these vaccines are being pushed on us as the big pharma companies get big bucks from them. It all seems a bit experimental to me. The website suggests not having any vaccines until your little one is at least 2, and then only having the ones that were given in the 1980's as they are really all we need. I mean, why are they vaccinating against chicken pox? I had that and, apart from being itchy, it was hardly life-threatening. The Hep B thing is a bit weird too. Why do babies need that? Rachael, is Aiden getting all these vaccines??

not yet but most items I have found at goodwill or garage sales look brand new, and if something does have a little stain I found a great recipe to get the stain out. 1 cup cascade 1 cup clorax color safe bleach hottest water to come out of your tap Mix all in 5 gallon bucket with clothes, leave over night. Put in wash next day and see results. I have been able to get out 90% of the stains on some of the clothes I let my sister borrow for my niece that did not come back to me in the same way they were given (that is another story). I found this in my Tightwad Gazette, which I just love (yes DH and I are tightwads)

My Sil gave them (G-diapers) a shot, I don't know how they worked out though as the babes are twins so that's double the work? lol.
Alana- I agree on the whole chicken pox thing, aside from a scar above my eyebrow, no long term effects from them. I'm infact planning to take my kids to play with other children when they have chicken pox so we can get it out of the way ASAP. I think my MIL is going to think I'm a terrible mum! LOL. i also plan on letting them get dirty, eat dirt if they so choose, fall, get scraped and ohhhhhh.....even bleed!! lol. My MIL is so paranoid when my SIL's kids fall down or even when they throw a temper tantrum. I'm all for giving my kids tons of love, but I also think they need to get hurt so they learn what pain is and I don't have to constantly chase after them telling them not to do something or stopping them from it. lol. Maybe I am going to be abad mum! LOL (I kid, I kid!) My brain feels like the weather outside, one minute sunny and happy, the next minute cloudy and SNOWING. Grrr.

You all are too funny today! I *think* MM on the January Due date group is using those G diapers if I remember right. I know she researched them. I'd be curious if she stuck with it
Gotta admit - as environmentally friendly as we are with our recycling and hybrid car I draw the line at washing poopy diapers...Josee - Sorry for meanie AF and the no promotion all in one day. Urgh. Our economy sucks right now. But, I do love your creativity with the acronoymn (sp?). Can I have a drink too? Alana - I think the gently loved baby clothes are a great idea. I hate to admit how many 0-3 clothes Aiden wore once. The issue we ran into is he is always a warm baby. HATES long sleeves. And, of course, since he was born in the winter I had bought all these cute sweaters, etc. Who would have thought! Just wash everything and you'll be fine. Want to sell my clothes on ebay? I've got them organized and packed up by size. I'm hoping one of my SILs has a boy eventually. Heidi - We can't wait to cheer you on next week!! I hope you have a sinful weekend of wine and sushi for your last chance and don't even think about having to find a new job for ivf. Not going to happen! As far as vaccines, we are staggering ours. Never more than 2 per visit and I skipped the Hep B. I'll just keep Aiden away from iv drugs for a while! Our Ped. does only offer the thermisol free flu shot. I'm hoping to be able to do the MMR seperately like we all did as kids. Otherwise, we'll put that one off till probably 2.5 or 3 yrs old. I had lunch with my SIL today. I wish we had more in common. Just nothing to talk about other than our kids. Before babies we literally had nothing. We just couldn't be more different people. They did IVF but never told any of us about any of their struggles or the process so we weren't even able to bond about that. She talks a little about it now and they are starting to think about a FEt this summer. Opps. Aiden's up again... short nap... Forgot to say Susan I've heard good things about your stroller and everyone I know with a bugaboo hates it and constantly has flat tires! |

Lol...I'm glad you are a tight-wad Martie. Tight-wads are doing the planet and everyone on it a huge favour. I think we should all be more frugal and re-use stuff. Just think of how much junk could come out of the landfills if we would all just get over our fear of 'pre-loved' items. I remember when I lived in NZ there was a point when everyone became addicted to buying their clothes from charity stores etc. It was so much fun rummaging through the endless racks.
So this vaccine website is winding me up more and more. It annoys me so much that all the doctors can up with for an excuse that its safe is 'theres no proof of harm'. I mean, aren't they supposed to come up with proof of safety first? That basically means they are waiting for some serious problems to happen and then they will think about doing more research. Yikes...this vaccine stuff is really scary. I had no idea!

Alana- I just wanted to pipe in here and say that the majority of the clothes that I have bought so far for this baby are second hand.
We have a fabulous children's resale store here, they even sell strollers and all sorts of gear. Most of the clothes are new with the tags still on them and they are superior quality! I wish I could show you all of the cute outfits! I think I went to Baby Gap once and bought one thing and Gymboree once. Other than that they are all second hand, wither bought or hand me downs from my neice (12 years ago). My friend sent me pis of her little guy in the NICU today. He is the smallest baby I have ever seen! If anyone want sot see this precious little thing I can email you a pic. Just a miracle that he is alive... My best girlfriend is leaving to move to San Francisco tomorrow. She is staying here tonight and then driving herself to the airport in the morning. I am still on bedrest until next week. I can modify it a little (I think I have already done that!) and get up to stretch and lift some 4 lb weights with my arms. I gotta get moving! Hope you are all well! Oh and I orderd the baby's bedroom set today. I'll see if I can find it... Westwood Design: Stratton Group The color is not the same as the pic. I did not get the hutch either. Wow. I feel like I have bought everything I need! Stroller, car seat, bedroom set, carrier...
