Jen- Did I ever mention that I worked in a sleep lab doing sleep studies and EEGs on people?? Now that was cool! Too bad I could not stand working nights and I hated my boss! I know- you think I am crazy.

Shelly, there are sub positions posted on Monster? Could that be something to do short-term until something else turns up?

Susan, I am also a former restless soul. I still get antsy, but I can't just take off like the old days. Like you, I've moved around alot, globe trotting trying to find myself, but unlike you, I've tried and done very little of any worth. I come from a long line of underachievers who just work to pay the bills. It's hard to break from that and have a clear vision in mind for a productive career. My siblings are the same. We just weren't encouraged to achieve anything. That's one thing I hope for my child(ren), that they find something they like doing and go for it whatever it is.

And, the headache is much better thanks. It's more random than constant which I can deal with.

Heidi- I know the feeling of underachiever. LOL> Same here. HAve not done ANYTHIGN with my life. My goal was to be a farmer's wife and help my husband on it. It didn't happen and now I'm stuck in a go no where, no career life. We can't even afford (nor woudl I want to at this point since 2008 is our year and I'm staying home with our kids. Very important that i raise the children we so desperately hoped for.) for me to return to school.

If I could return, I'd go to Hair school. How exciting hey!? Talk about no ambition. LOL

Tia, that is so cool about you adoption appointment tomorrow! Good luck!

ok I am going to sound like a glummy gus but I heard something I wanted to let you all know.

they had this story on dateline on Sunday here is a link to the story. I did not see all of the story but thought I would try to share.

Guatemalan adoption has two sides - Inside Dateline - msnbc.com

and here is the info on an adoption site. I could not remember were you were going Tia but just wanted to give a heads up

Jan. 2008 - Alert (US only): To prospective parents considering adoption from Guatemala. As of 12/31/2007, a new Hague compliant adoption law (Ortega) went into effect in Guatemala which will drastically change the adoption process.. The implementation of this new law has not been clarified at this time. The US Hague implementation is expected to take effect in April 2008 which may cause more delays with US based agencies.
Guatemala anticipates that there will be no new cases until April.
Agencies accepting applications for this program are premature and worrisome. Recently, Guatadopt.com has become aware of several scams (agencies and attorneys alike) which request application payments or premature processing payments from Prospective Parents with little or no intent on completing the adoption. Guatadopt.com has pledged to alert authorities when we suspect of such a case. While attorneys may still have custody of children, they no longer have the right to conduct or process the adoption as before.

it is just terrible the things people will do to take advantage of other people.

I feel blah...

Amy sorry about those stupid headaches.

Shawna-nothing wrong with being a hairstylist. They make good money and most seem to really enjoy what they do.

Susan-did you ever have a, lets just say, less than respectible job ?
I have had 1 job, been at it for 1.5 years. Before that 8 years of graduate school.

heidi- I actualy came from a family of under-achievers as well. No one in my family except for my grandfather and myself have graduated from college. We had no one to motivate us, not even out high school teachers(small town, no diversity- mentality)...

If it was not for the ending of my fist marriage and the person who came iunto my life after that, I would still be sitting around afraid of trying anything.
I was such a scaredy-cat. I did not leave home until 23.
Now i kind of feel that way again, boring- having to rely on someone financially. Ugh... Somedays I feel like I don't have a leg to stand on.
Amy- I am sorry your head still hurts.
Shawna- You can practice on my hair!

Amy, I feel your pain.

Shawna, I don't think there's anything wrong with being a hairdresser either. Plenty of work it seems too. I have found a comfort level working for a non-profit org. Although it is not profitable for me financially, I feel like I'm making a difference in the bigger picture. It also feels good to tell people where I work because they don't care what I do there, they just think it's a great organization. I think if this IVF doesn't work out I'll be looking around for positions at another non-profit place like Oxfam or Red Cross. Something with more hours and benefits that cover IVF or if we don't decide to do that again, we'll be at least putting some more money in the bank than we are now.

Susan, I was the first one from my family to graduate high school. I was the youngest to leave home at 22, but my brother stayed until he was 28 and my sister was 31. She only left because I did and felt a bit silly I guess. Shoot, in hindsight it was great living with my parents.

Tia, how exciting. Things seem to be moving along at a great pace for you. And the May reunion will break up the time too!!

Martie, I saw that Adoption programme too. It's terrible to think that people are trying to profit at the risk of a child's welfare. So glad they are looking into it now.
