Likely going to lose this one too

Hi,

I've been a bit quiet with my posts on the IVF page but DH and I went through IVF # 2 recently. First beta 60 (I wanted over 100 but nurses were very happy and said they want over 50). Anyhow, 2 days later (today) it only rose to 80. Nurses want me to retest in 2 days but I've been down this road before.

IVF # 1 Chem Pregnancy happened very quick with first beta only at 15.

Natural Conception - Blighted Ovum at 8 weeks. D&C. Did the Beta game then just started later since it was natural and not IVF. But it was a slowly rising beta.

Just turned 40 in February so I'm pretty sad. DH and I had decided we would do up to 3 IVF's but I sure had prayed I would not need to. IVF is never easy for us as he is in the military and away more than home so scheduling is difficult.

I'm pretty depressed. I don't think it will ever be "my turn". I feel selfish even saying that but heck, I'm crying right now and it's how I feel.

I'm very sorry this is happening again. I've been through it twice so understand how devastated and defeated you must be feeling.

I was curious though as to whether they put back more than one embryo. I only ask because I had a very very early vanishing twin with my current pregnancy and it made my beta numbers do strange things also. Its just a thought.

I was also wondering, if you don't mind me asking, did you do PGD with this latest IVF? I only ask because you mentioned you had a blighted ovum which is usually a chromosome issue. Either way, there are options out there hun, but right now you just need to take the time to heal and mourn the possible loss of this little one.

Ugh...I'm so, so sorry you are going through this. That limbo crap is the worst of anything... I hope it's clearcut in 2 days either way. I know from experience what torture it is to stay in that limbo. My heart goes out to you and I'm praying for a pleasant surprise for you. Is your dh out of town now? Mine has been out town since ET and it's been harder being alone... I hope you have a good support network, but you've always got us! Sorry we won't be able to post on Saturday, but know that you're in our thoughts.

Thanks everyone for responding.

Alana, we transferred back several embryos including one that was a 2nd day ICSI (4 immature at ET). We did not do PGD mainly because there weren't that many to test and I had hoped they would not take if there were issues.

My RE actually thinks my blighted ovum was caused by fibroids (14 of them, one the size of a grapefruit). Amazingly I never knew I had them. But I didn't know any better then and we did not test from the D&C to know.

Alana, what was your beta like with the early vanishing twin?

DH says stay positive but I just can't.

My betas were all over the place. I even had one lot where it was 439 one day and only 471 two days later. The RE had told me to expect another m/c too, so you can imagine my surprise when I went in for an u/s only to see a heartbeat. I wouldn't give up just yet hun, you transferred several embryos, maybe one just didn't implant properly? It can affect the numbers for about a week or so, thats how long it took for mine to act normally.

Oh Lizzy, I'm so sorry you're going through this. I know how awful it is to be in limbo waiting for news and expecting the worst. But, as Alana's situation attests, don't completely lose faith. Apparently 20% of pregnancies don't have a normal beta rising pattern. In the meantime, try as hard as you can to take care of yourself. I'll be thinking of you. -B

Thank you everyone for your prayers and keeping me in your thoughts. I know each of you have your own TTC journey so it means a lot to me that you took the time to reply to my post.

As of today, beta is 238. I'm really stunned. I missed the call (out of service area) and it popped up while I was at the grocery store. I'm sure people had to wonder why I was cryng while choosing milk!!

At this point, RE does not want to repeat the bloodwork and want to schedule for U/S at normal time. I know there is still such a long, long road ahead to a healthy birth but I am so in awe to still have a shot. I had even spoken to my nurse and the donor egg nurse today at length about the donor egg program.

Best of luck to all of you and I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers as well.

Neta, thank you for serving our country!! I'm really glad you have a supportive unit. When is your FET?
