What to expect

Hi everyone, I'm 6 weeks 1 day and my pregnancy has been declared non-viable. The beta numbers were never good and the egg sac was far too tiny. I stopped the progesterone shots and am waiting to m/c naturally. I'm trying to figure out what to expect now. I stopped the progesterone on Wednesday (took last dose on tuesday). My RE said it could take 2 to 4 weeks for this to pass! Today I've had strange and strong pain in my lower belly. It's faded some now. Dare I hope that this is the m/c? It's just so horrible that I'm technically pregnant still.

I'm so very sorry that you have to go through this. I had a similiar experience. We saw a heartbeat a little after 6 weeks, but the next ultrasound showed no heartbeat. My doctor gave me the choice to miscarry naturally or have a D&C. I scheduled the D&C for the next morning so that I could start the healing process both emotionally and physically. Did your doctor give you any options?

My doctor said that I should get a beta again next tuesday (to check what, I don't know) and maybe then schedule a second u/s to make sure things are moving along. I think since the sac is tiny and nowhere near a heartbeat, he's holding off on a D&C. Isn't there a longer delay after a D&C before they let you try again than if I m/c naturally?

I don't think there is any difference in waiting period. They told me to wait one cycle before trying again. I think that's pretty standard after a m/c. However, we were trying naturally, so I don't know if it would make a difference if you wanted to do IVF. That's something you may want to ask your doctor if you are trying to decide. Sorry I couldn't be more help about the natural route. Good luck and again I am truly sorry.

I miscarried naturally exactly 1 week after stopping progesterone. As far as trying again its just basically waiting for beta to go down to 0. My beta at miscarriage was 7500 and it took 4 weeks for it to return down then I started a new cycle.

Thanks for your responses! tcrsmom, did you have pain the whole week or did you just the day of your m/c? Could you feel it coming? What signs did you have? Since low betas are part of my problem, it shouldn't take long before mine returns to zero.

I'm sorry you are going through this. I am glad that for peace of mind they are going to do another beta and maybe u/s to doublecheck. I'm not sure about what to expect with a natural miscarriage as I had a missed miscarriage, so they encouraged me to have the cytotec which made me miscarry that day.
I know it's a tough place to be in waiting for something to happen. I really feel for you.

Today I'm really light-headed and dizzy, especially when I try to have a bowel movement (TMI). Oh would this just happen already!

first of all, i'm REALLY sorry that you are going through this. i had a natural miscarriage a couple years back. my beta had dropped (i also had started off very low and never gotten that high) and my doctor didn't think i needed a d&c. the only real obvious symptom for me was heavy bleeding and some cramping. the cramping came first, so i sort of knew what was coming. just take it easy, try to stay down and baby yourself as much as possible. again, i'm very sorry for your loss.

I am so sorry you are going through this. It is such an emotional and physical rollercoaster. With a natural m/c you may experience spotting for a few days then bleeding and cramps when it is trying to expel. If it does not come out within a reasonable time the RE may want you to have a D & C or try cytotec. I had success with cytotec 1x but it was not successful for another m/c and I ended up having another D&C. I opted for the cytotec because it was less invasive than a D&C with no anesthesia. But it makes you cramp badly and not so comfortable to put in. Many people opt for the D&C because you don't have to wait too long like a natural m/c. I hope this happens quickly for you--in the meantime, please do take care of yourself. We are here for support if you need us.

I'm only 6w2d, so hopefully this won't be too bad ... I wonder if I should ask my doctor about the cytotec.

Your beta numbers have doubled though--why did the RE say it was non-viable--did you do an ultrasound?

My beta numbers were almost doubling every other day at first then they only doubled in four days. I had an ultrasound then and he said that that sac was far too tiny for how far along it should be (I had IVF so there wasn't any question of conception date).

I think it's finally happening! As tcrsmom said, it's exactly one week since I stopped taking the PIO and I'm finally getting real bleeding. I got a beta this morning and hopefully it's dropped so I can get on with the next cycle!
