Question Sorry Question for a co-worker

She asked me a question which I was a bit confused...

Her son's girlfriend is about 8 weeks pg and she had a lot of bleeding so she and the b/f went to the doctor and the g/f told my co-worker the doctor said she had no yolk sac which about two weeks prior she did on an u/s. The doctor has she sheduled for a d & c but I don't see why you would need one if there is no yolk sac. My co-worker is concerned the g/f may be lying b/c she already has a 10 month old. And maybe doing an abortion.

Do you ladies see any reason for a d&c if there is no yolk sac? I don't but I have not had the experience....Thanks for the advise. My co-worker is really upset.

that is really confusing, there would still be a sac unless she has already m/c and the bleeding occured.

at 9ish wks, we lost one twin and the sac remained visible in the u/s for several wks and eventually was reabsorbed.

the only thought for a d&c is there might be something else the OB sees as a possible risk for infection.

You can have an incomplete miscarriage and leave stuff behind, which can be dangerous. If her hcg levels aren't dropping appropriately and she no longer has a viable pregnancy, I think there would be a medical reason for a d&c, just to make sure all of the tissue has been expelled.

When I had my d&c I had no yolk sac either. It turned out to be an ectopic though, which is obviously not the case with this girl if she said the doctor saw one two weeks earlier.
