that is really confusing, there would still be a sac unless she has already m/c and the bleeding occured.
at 9ish wks, we lost one twin and the sac remained visible in the u/s for several wks and eventually was reabsorbed. the only thought for a d&c is there might be something else the OB sees as a possible risk for infection.

You can have an incomplete miscarriage and leave stuff behind, which can be dangerous. If her hcg levels aren't dropping appropriately and she no longer has a viable pregnancy, I think there would be a medical reason for a d&c, just to make sure all of the tissue has been expelled.

When I had my d&c I had no yolk sac either. It turned out to be an ectopic though, which is obviously not the case with this girl if she said the doctor saw one two weeks earlier.
