Another mom-to-be just asked this one.
In short: leg cramps/charlie horses are a sign of low potassium which CAN be a side effect of pregnancy. Or it could just be low potassium. Eat bananas and tomatoes. If it continues, speak to your doctor.

Also stay hydrated. The muscles need hydration. Definitely can be low potassium too. I am just had my first leg cramp in this pregnancy this week. Other than that I've had a few a year just because of low potassium. Watch the way you stretch and massage them out as best as you can.

me too!
I have been having leg cramps that actually keep me up at night. I am ~ 7 weeks pregnant. During the day they ease up. i will tryo to drink more water - I hate tomatoes but have been eating prunes or drinking prune juice each day. I thought it was just one more aspect of me being over-vigilant to every little twinge and sign.
