Jen- I'm so happy for you that your FSH came down. Awesome news! I have to wait another month b/c the day I was scheduled to go in we had a winter storm. Oh well, I could use the break anyway and I couldn't start another IUI cycle right now b/c I'm super busy at work and can't be going to the doc every few days for u/s. Refresh my memory- are you doing IVF or IUI?

Great to have women who understand!

Hi all,

I am new here and have been looking for a support group for women who have high FSH or DOR. I have been recently referred to an RE because of my high FSH levels: 10.2 on Day 3 and 17.7 on Day 10. I have been taking Clomid for 2 rounds and was told during my ultrasound that I have 1 dominant ovary and that I had follicles. Needless to say, I was devistated when my OB told me that my chances of getting pregnant without "stronger means" was pretty low. I am really looking forward to meeting with my RE and speaking with someone who has more knowledge on the subject. I am 32 and thought that I was too young to have this issue, but I have been doing a lot of research and have found that it is more common that I thought. One really positive thing I read (is it true???) was that the younger you are, the stronger the eggs you have left are.

Thank you so much for reading this and I hope to both get and receive support on this site.

Marissa, to this site. You will find an amazing group of people with more knowledge than most doctors. I was recently diagnosed with POF at age 32 and I didn't even know it existed (I think I have dimished ovarian reserve and not POF and want to discuss with my RE). Your day 3 FSH still seems pretty low for POF so I wouldn't be too alarmed. I think my standard that RE's like to see at CD3 is <9.0. My highest CD3 FSH was 24.3, I don't know what mine was at CD10. CD3 FSH is the marker for diagnosing POF and DOR, your FSH is naturally higher at CD10. I believe that my RE said if you are under 35 years, the chances are that the quality of your eggs is better. I feel like I'm really racing the biological clock now.

Good luck with the RE. When do you go?

Marissa and Stephanie. You have found a great place for support. High FSH is extremely frustrating and it seems like the odds are against us, but I am still holding on to hope and I hope you are too.

Hi ladies!

sunshine- thanks! sorry a winter storm decided to show up on your BW day. It is absolutely frustrating when you have to wait entire months at a time for AF for bloodworks. I am praying your fsh lowers! Oh, and I am (hopefully) doing ivf.

marisa and stephanie - I am glad you found us here! and marisa- I have also heard the younger the better the egg quality? Don't know if it really true or not.

Hi everyone, I also have a high FSH of a 40 year old woman, I am 25. I just recieved the results yesturday... I also had ovarian cysts for about two years and irregular (twice a month) periods for six months... I got back to the doctor on the 17th to do some more test adn an ultrasound to count the follicles that are left... It nice to hear that people are still able to become pregnant, it helps.

wow, Natalie, you docs should have known you needed to do stims, have eggs extracted and fertilized and freeze any embryos... I cannot believe a cancer specialist would not know... If you want a healthy child, you will need to use a donor egg, but you should be able to carry it yourself using hormone supplements... good luck, and remember for kids, it's 80% environment and 20% genes that determine how they turn out

Hi all!! I am sooo sorry that I have been MIA for so long but after the miscarriage it was too difficult. As you will see in my signature, before we could go on with the April DE IVF we got pregnant on our own. Can you believe that? A 3% chance. Anyway, we carried well but the heat rate was never as strong as it should have been and eventually the ultrasound showed no activity. We had a D&C.
It has been hard to look at this for any positive light, but the RE said that the fact that it was a chromasomal problem and I was carrying well, that our chances with DE is even higher. I am happy to hear that. We are now looking at October. Our RE only does IVF three times a year- April, July and October. We were not ready in May when we would have had to start preping for July. I feel ready for October.
How are all of you?

New to this...

Me, 33, high cd3 FSH (15.5)
DH, 32, perfect!
ttc: 6 months
chemical pregnancies in June and July of 2008
referred to RE by Ob/GYN
Found elevated FSH (LPD)
08/2008: injectables + double IUI#1
08/31/2008: starting BCP for IVF#1

I am going in for a hysteroscopy this coming week while taking the BCPs (prior to IVF). Does anyone have any feedback for this procedure? Any suggestions or details that the doctor didn't mention? I would love to know what to really expect.

I am trying to be positive, but with an FSH of 15.5...I am nervous. I am glad that my RE doesn't mess around. He wants to be aggressive, which I am certianly happy about. Does anyone have any success stories about high FSH and success with IVF? That would be greatly appreciated. I hope all is well1

Amanda- I am sorry you are going through this. My FSH was 51 on cd3. We were given a 3% chance of getting pregnant on our own and somehow did but (as you see in my signature) the heart stopped beating. My RE thinks I have a quality and quantity problem b/c of the mc. He told us from the get go that our best chance was with DE IVF. We now have a donor, yippie, and are waiting for October for the ER and ET.
Keep us posted on what is going on with you. Good Luck!

Good Luck!!!

Natalie:
Thanks for the response. It seems like everyone I know is pregnant at this moment...except for me. I felt really isolated until I found this site. My sister went through 5 rounds of IUI before conceiving my neices (twins..now 4.5 yo). I talk to her about my experiences, but she and I have different fertility issues (she had male factor and unexplained female)...so there isn't much comfort regarding poor egg quality and quantity. She just keeps telling me that my time will come, and to be positive. I am trying to do just that.

I wish you so much luck with your DE IVF coming up in October! Keep me posted throughout the process if you need to chat!
-Amanda

Natalie: Wow...how exciting...you are all ready to go. I am waiting for my meds to be delivered. They should be here before the 18th of Sept. I know it could shift a coulple of days, but as of now my calendar is:

09/24/08: start HMG (Menopur)
09/28/08begin Ganarelix (GnRh antag)W/HMG
1004/08: start doxycycline
10/06/08: my egg retreival
10/08/08:start medrol & progesterone (IM)
10/09/08 or 08/13/08: embryo transfer

We are going to try a couple of times with my eggs and see what happens. I am hoping we hit the egg lottery, but I guess we have to try and relax...wait and see. it all depends on how well I stim. With my one try at IUI, I had about 4, maybe 5 folllicles. I think my problem is quality more than quantity.

Is your schedule similar?
me, 33: elevated cd3 FSH (15.5)...although now 8.0
DH, 32: perfect!

ttc: 7 months
2 chemical pregnancies: June and July 2008
referred to RE by OB/GYN

08/2008: injectables + double IUI#1

08/31/2008: started BCP for three weeks pre-IVF
