Unhappy If diagnosed w/ POF and birth control pills/hormone replacement?

I am in beginning stages of diagnosis. We are trying to get pregnant but have been having problems. Gynecologist has now mentioned POF three times after blood work. I still need day 3 blood work to confirm true numbers. If you have POF and are trying to get pregnant are you still taking meds to replace hormones (birth control or HRT)? I am 34 and have many missed periods and the worst hot flashes. My FSH has been high and progesterone very low. I just wonder if docs can replace hormones to help with symptoms of POF while you are also trying to get pregnant. Any advice is helpful.

I am sorry that you are going through this. I have POF and have found a lot of support and answers at The International Premature Ovarian Failure Association and Early Menopause.com. You should also check out Premature Ovarian Failure - Home. When you take HRT you are replacing the hormones that you body is not making. Doctors are not hopeful that women with POF can conceive using their own eggs because they they generally have very few eggs or no eggs left. HRT does help with symptoms and also protects your bones and heart. A very small percentage of women still get pregnant while taking HRT. I think it is about 1% of all women with this condition conceive naturally. My understanding is that you are less likely to get pregnant while taking BCP, but you have a better chance of getting pregnant on your own with vivelle dot and provera or prometrium. Donor egg is the best option for getting pregnant, but you do have to use someone else's eggs.

I wish you all the best.
