Femara

Is anyone familiar with this drug? I was told that it was originally used for breast cancer and now they are finding that it works better than clomid. My RE is very good, and I trust him. Plus when I filled it at the pharmacy, the pharmacist told me that he had only filled Femara for 3 infertility customers and said that they never returned, so I guess thats a good sign.

I was hoping to do a bit of research on the drug today. Tonight will mark out first day of infertility treatment. I'm a bit nervous, but excited at the same time.

Thanks for the help ladies!

I'm also on Femara - second round for me - but I'm hopeful. I haven't had any side effects from it thus far and my dosage is 5 mg. My RE said that it works much the same way as Clomid, but the risk of multiples is less with Femara.

I was diagnosed with unexplained infertility, and my RE started a protocol with Femara. I was succesful on the first try, but that pregnancy ended in m/c. My RE then tried many protocols with this drug, and I finally had my last year in September, and now my daughter is 5 months old.
I wish you the best of luck. Femara, along with other drugs, is what worked for me.

I don't mind at all! I'm just glad that I'm not the only one with crazy periods!! I have been SO FRUSTRATED because I can't seem to establish any type of regular cycle, and all my tests have come back normal! It seems we have a lot in common!

BTW, what is prometrium used for?

finally

finally someone who understands! girl I feel you! this unpredictable period mess is killer. I'm going on a year now. i've been dirving my hubby crazy!

The prometrium was supposed to try and regulate the periods as an alternative to BC. When I went to the OB in Feb. I told her that I was having issues with breakthrough bleeding and asked if we could do anything aobut it (other than BC). I would have refused BC anyway - I was not going to cover up any kind of potential problem. And I knew that we were going to want to "start trying" sooner rather than later - So anyway, prometrium is a pill from of progestrone. It thickens the uterine lining so that way there is no breakthrough bleeding. I think it's commmonly used for pregnancies also.

Hope that helps.

I have been off BC for about 8 months now and my period has been everywhere! That's the reason I was on it before, because at 15 years old I was having a (heavy) period for 9 weeks, and it wouldn't stop.

I've had problems with breakthrough bleeding, even while on BC.

With the prometrium how long of a period of time did you take it? 7 days or was it taken just like BC for 21 with 7 off? My doc gave me provera, which is also progesterone to take for 7 days, so I guess they're pretty close to the same thing?

I feel bad for my DH, he's been so great and understanding, but he knows how frustrated I'm getting. I'm hoping that the baby fairy will come visit us soon, but at this point, I'd just settle for a normal cycle for a while!

prometrium

I would take it 10 days out of my cycle. The problem was that after the breakthrough bleeding stoped the irregularities didn't. Like I would bleed 2 days, or 5 or 12 on a cycle approx. 21 days long.

I was of BC for 2 years before these things started. And I never had any trouble with anything till last Dec.

Very strange.

Ahh, the joys of the irregular cycle! I don't know if anyone can really understand how defeated it makes you feel. At least if you have a regular cycle you get to hope that you might be PG, but like this I don't even know if its a possibility!

periods

have you had more intense cramps while on Femera? Every other month I have cramps, but it seems like they are a bit more intense this month, and I have heavier bleeding. I was told to take all 10 pills at the same time, so maybe that is part of it?

I usually don't have cramps in the lower abdominal area, mine are usually concentrated in my lower back. However, I did notice that while on Clomid and Femara I had a lot more lower abdominal cramps than normal.

I would think that your cramps could be the result of the Femara itself, but its definitely a possibility that its related to the dosage. I don't know that I've ever heard of taking all 10 pills at one time, but then I'm finding out that there are a lot of ways to take these drugs!

Well, I guess I've got some good news: AF finally stopped! I've been testing with my fertility monitor the last two days and so far its showing me at low fertility but this is only CD8 for me, so I guess that's ok. I won't start getting worried unless that reading doesn't change in the next few days.

I'm crossing my fingers for both of us to get our this month!! Lots of !!!

cool

Yeah I'm crossing my fingers too!

I've been reserching the drug and so far I haven't found anyone with that dosage either. But my RE said that I could try the drug on it's own without monitoring for the 1st month, so maybe thats y? Trying to get ovulation in overdrive? W/e if it works I'm happy with it!

I've read about great results on Femara. That and a book I read said that chiropractice care helped for some women with spinal issues, so I'm trying that as well. I found out in 2000 that I had scolliosis, and so I called my chiropratcor and she told me that where my spine curves, it hits the nerves of my reproductive organs - so maybe the 2 treatments combined with happily work together?

I think chiropractic treatment is a good thing, as well as other alternative treatments like acupuncture. I'm actually thinking about trying acupuncture to see if it will help regulate my cycles. Its worth a try I guess.

I've been told I have a slight scoliosis too, but its never given me any trouble that I'm aware of, key word being aware I guess? But it does make me wonder now that you mentioned it if that may be why I have such bad lower back pain during AF? I may have to ask my doc about that.

doc

I rairly have back trouble at all. I'm just lucky that i have a friend who is a Chiropractor, so I feel at ease talking to her about it.

When I met with the RE for the first time he seemed sceptiacal about acupuncture, but I'm willing to try that too if it would help my cycles. Seems weird that will all the drugs out there they haven't come up with anything just for that. I think that we need an alternative to BC.

I read about alternative treatments in a book I read. It was called "A Few Good Eggs." It was a good book, although I think it was geared to women in thier 30's.
