Arrow Hsg Today

Today we are moving forward! I have my HSG at 1 p.m. and DH is giving his third SA at 12:30.

I was instructed to take some pain reliever between half hour and one hour before the procedure. For those who have done this, what did you take and how was your pain?

I'll post again this afternoon with my results.

I took advil about an hour before. The other bit of advice I received which was super helpful was to bring a maxi pad with you as some dye may leak afterwards. Best of luck!

My plan is to take 3 Extra Strength Tylenol at about 11:30. I'm eating my light snack now before I leave work since once I leave I'm on the road to my RE's office (an hour away). Thanks for the advice, I will bring a pad with me to be on the safe side. I had wondered about that and have a panty liner with me but I'll stop at home and get something more.
I'm not nervous yet which is comforting but that doesn't mean things won't change when DH leaves me to register while he gives his SA. I'm sure it will hit me then. I'll post as soon as I get home and give everyone an update. Hoping for good results, this is the first test for me in all our years trying to conceive!

Good luck on the HSG. They will give you a pad there if you need it. Also, I did not take any meds, but it hurt like heck for a few minutes! They gave me pain medication there, but I didn't take it, it stopped hurting after we left!

Let us know how it goes!

Jen,

If you can watch the screen! You can see everything when they inject the dye, it's pretty cool.

My ob said, now you're gonna feel like there's an 18-wheeler between your legs... and then she said stuff like a little pressure here, a little pressure there and walked me through it. She was great!

You'll be fine!!

Much love,
Julie

The HSG was fine. I had a ton of pain, even after taking 3 extra strength tylenol an hour before hand, but it wasn't too bad. The cramping lasted about 45 minutes, started toward the end of the procedure and then the whole ride home. I could barely stand up to walk straight nor could I use the restroom when I first finished. Tubes look good though, very clear and open. My uterus is slightly tilted but he wasn't concerned with it. DH did finish his analysis and was asked if he wanted to join me and he did. I couldn't really see the screen because it was off to the side but DH did and loved it.

Jen,

Glad you survived! Take it easy the rest of the day. Doc prolly isn't concerned about a slightly tilted uterus as I do believe that is very common. Glad all went well with Dh too!

Rest easy,
Love,
Julie

Jen,
I am very happy to hear everything went well for you today! Do you have a follow-up appointment to discuss your next step?

Dr said he'd get DH's SA results early next week and he'll call me to discuss the next step.
He did say that there wasn't a problem with the tilted uterus, my mother and grandmother both had this and they were just fine and had beautiful healthy children so I'm not concerned about it.
Now that I've had a few hours to nap off the pain I feel great, just a few twinges here and there of pain but nothing I can't handle. When the dye was first injected there was some pain but as I moved around for the x-rays I noticed more pain. Then by the time the 4 x-rays were done and they took the catheder out I really was starting to cramp up. So much so that my knees started to shake. Could have also been because it was cold up on that table!
Anyway, they had me lay there for a few minutes while RE looked at the pictures and he kept saying that they looked great and I was tough and he was thrilled then he came in to talk with us face to face. When we were done I was still really crampy and so wanted to cry (low pain tolerance I guess) and as I sat up I felt the warm gush of dye coming back out. I thought oh my gosh how disgusting. So I had to carry the white sheet from the table with me and continued to lose a little as I walked out into the waiting area and into the bathroom. So gross! Funny, but gross!

I had the HSG done as well. It was very unpleasant for me. The Dr said to me and I quote "The cramping wont be any worse than your period cramps." I laughed at that point cuz he had no idea how BAD my cramps are. He said my cervix was really tight as well but that could have been cuz I was a bundle of nerves but everything looked good. It was a thoroughly uncomfortable procedure but went pretty quickly. I cramped for several hours after and almost passed out on the table .. lol .. very low tolerance for pain I guess. The dye coming back out was nasty and I wish someone would have told me about bringing an extra pad *note to self for next time!*

HSG 2/03 - all clear! BFP 3/03!!! m/c 4/03
05/08/07- Lap done .. discovered moderate to severe Endo. HSG (#2) 8/3/07- Everything great!
IUI #1 (12/07) - IUI #2 (1/08)- IUI #3 (2/08) - kind of lost and upset right now.
Trying au naturalle (no shots, no meds, nothing but me and DH ) until we figure out our next game plan (or we win the lottery).

Question

Since you are the only I know that has had the HSG done. How was it? What should I expect if I do this? Was there a lot of pain? I am just curious and if my questions are too personal feel free to let me know.

WHat gives?

ALright - I feel cheated...I had this done for the first time 3 years ago and the second time 9 months ago - I was never told to take anything for pain although I could have used it and I drove my self, alone both times...what gives? Your doc must be nicer than mine!!
