Smile My HSG Was Today

Well, my HSG was today. I got there and did the paper work only to be told that my DH could not come back there with me due to the radiation and what not. So that did not sit well with me. Then she explained all the forms to me that I had to sign. I took some pain meds like everyone said and they did not help. It was the most painful thing that I have ever had to endure!! The doctor went step by step of what he was he doing, but the more fluid he put in the more it hurt and more I wanted to cry from the pain. The had issues with the machine that took the pictures, but they got them finally . When asked are they open or closed I was told by Dr. Juarez that "the right side had leakage and that I only need one open tube to get pregnant." When I asked about the left he told me he didn't know and that he had to look at the pictures on his pc to tell and then I was ushered into the waiting room and he left. The doctors assistant came out and gave me a cd to take to my RE on the 14th. So I will see what she has to say.

I just wanted to let you all know what happened today.

Hi Cowgirlprincess,
I'm new here.
Too bad about the left tube, what a bummer!
I can sympathize with you about the pain, I agree, it hurt really bad when I had mine.
When do you find out about the results?

Cool

Oh you poor thing. I didn't have any issues with that test, but I still found it painful and upsetting. So, I can only imagined how upset you must have felt.

Did you talk to the RE yet to get the story on your tubes? Feel better and don't worry about things.

I had this test done too and found it extremely painful. At the time I was also told that one of my tubes appeared to be blocked.

A few weeks later I had a laparoscopy and they discovered that both tubes were open. Maybe the HSG isn't 100% conclusive?

Good luck and try not to worry too much!

Yeah, I second that - my OB/GYN told me that sometimes the tubes can spasm when the dye goes through...

Good Luck

Hi Mary,

I had my HSG done in July and my OB/GYN only told me of one side being affected by hydrasalpinx, I didn't know about the other side until I went to see my RE. I'm sorry it was a painful experience, get some well deserved rest. I understand that for the rest of the visit most DH's are allowed to be in the room with you.

Thanks Donna,

It turns out that since they were having issues with the machine making bigger pics for the doc to see he could not tell off hand, but his report to my RE stated that both tubes are open and that they are not diseased in any way.

Yeah, I thought that too about my DH being in the room but they gave me some cock and bull story about radiation and what not and would not let him in the room with me.. It hurt like hell, but I was fine after a few hours at home.

Hsg

Yikes, I'm worried about my HSG scheduled for 2/27. I have to premedicate with benedryl since I'm allergic to iodine. I will definetly make sure to take some advil ahead of time and bring more for the 1 hour drive home!
The real reason they won't let someone go back with you during the test is insurance. The premiums would skyrocket if they let non-patients go back and then if something happened they'd be considered liable. It sucks but with a sue happy society I guess everyone is worried about covering their butts!

I had an HSG in dec 07, I took the pain meds before hand, OMG it was the most painful 45 seconds of my life, but well woth it to see for myself that bothe tubes are wide open. I think all the pain and discomfort of tests and meds will be well woth it when we all get our BFPs!!!!!!

When I had my HSG done, they let DH come back with me. He had to put on one of those giant aprons. He's really tall, so they joked that he had better find one long enough to cover "everything". Wouldn't want his guys getting radiated!!
