MTHFR and chemical pregnancies

Hi Everyone.

So I have had one fresh (1 embryo) and one frozen IVF cycle (2 embryos). Both resulted in chemical pregnancies. So sad.

I received the RPL bloodwork and tested positive for hetero MTHFR. My doctor does not seem to think that this diagnosis is the reason for the chemical pregnancies. He said it is not the more severe form that would cause problems further down the line in the pregnancy. He keeps reassuring me, but it is getting depressing.

I am planning on doing another FET in July and will be using Lovenox.

Two questions -

1. Has anyone been diagnosed with MTHFR and had a history of chemical pregnancies? Perhaps then gone on to a successful pregnancy?

2. He only mentioned Lovenox and not higher levels of Folic acid? Has anyone experienced the doctor perscribing both blood thinners and increased vitamins?

I appreciate any words of wisdom. DH is away for work and I am feeling kinda down.

1.I have not had any chemical pregnancies but I have miscarried twice and now have a beautiful little girl
2.I was on Lovenox extra folic acid a specific prenatal vitamin

I would just say hang in there and try to stay strong sometimes it's a long road but well worth it.

Hey Malone... Maybe this can give you a little more hope...

After 2 miscarriages in 2004 and 2005, my doctor did some blood test. As it turned out, not only did I have a thyroid issue, I also had Homozygous MTHFR. He believed this was possibly a reason I m/c. In October 2005, I became pregnant. He out me on baby asprin and synthroid. I carried a beautiful healthy boy who will be 3 next month.

Soon after having my son, I started the baby aspirin again and tried for baby number 2... Two miscarriages later and 4 failed IUI's I began to realize that the MTHFR along with my age was playing a mean trick on me.

In April 2009 we did our first round of IVF. Im currently 10 weeks pregnant, but have yet to feel "safe" or excited....

During this pregnancy my RE prescribed me Lovenox and Metnax. The Metnax is a strong daily vitamin with extra folic acid and vitamin b 12...

It can happen for you, it did for me... Chin up!

I am still waiting for my MFTHR(?) results. Because I am pregnant with twins they put me immediately on Foltx and then the next day woke up gushing blood. Went in and U/S showed 2 hearbeats still. The bleeding stopped that night and I have been on bedrest for 6 days now until I go back on the 9th. I am very scared and I am fervently wishing everything turns out okay and that last week was just a clot or something. I have had 3 miscarriages and don't want to endure another one. I am almost 41 in September and have a 6 and a half year old DD. We want so badly to give her a sibling to share her life and memories with.

I will keep you in my thoughts

With the MTHFR you do need the extra folic acid. Also taking B6/ B12 will help aid your body in absorbing the folic acid better. I take Folgard, but I think someone else mentioned another vitamin prescribed for this. I take Folgard 2x a day (it has Folic acid, b6 & b12) I take a prenatal, & a baby aspirin every day.

I have not had a chemical pregnancy, but I did have one miscarriage 2 years ago. Not sure if the MTHFR is the link, but its possible.

Good luck!

I take a total of 4,000mg of folic acid, b6, b12, and specific prenatal RE prescribed. If I get pregnant I take Lovenox and My RE also says my blood stuff is not playing into my early miscarriages.

I have the mild form of MTHFR. My RE prescribed folic acid pills and said that I should take them for the rest of my life, if I am TTC or not. I also have a factor V Leiden blood clotting disorder. My RE said that is not a problem with TTC, but can be a problem with the child birth process. Finally, I possibly have endo on my ovaries.

here is my history. I have no LC. 1st m/c naturally at 8w; 2nd m/c was a chem preg after an iui cycle; and my 3rd m/c was at 8w, I had a D&C after a ivf cycle. All of this happened this year.

So no success. I am on the older side and out of hope.
