Starting to think it might be SI

We've been trying for #2 since May 08 and I'm starting to wonder if #2 is ever going to happen. I'm 36, DH's 39. Our DD is 2 1/2 and was conceived on the second try.

Since she was born we found out my DH has low Test and he went on TRT. We had a chemical pregnancy in Oct 08 and then in Jan we went to see an infertility specialist. I checked out fine and then we got preg that month. Unfortunately I miscarried at 8 weeks. During that time my DH got off of hormones to find the cause of his low test (Empty Sella Syndrome) and went on HCG in April which doesn't harm a man's fertility like TRT. For the past two months we've finally found the right dosage for him. But we're still here and thinking we may need to go back to the specialist.

I have been generally positive about it and my DH has been much more concerned that we may need help. Now I'm just trying to figure out what steps we should consider now.

Maybe you should have your progesterone checked? They usually check it a week after ovulation. If it's low you'll need to supplement, this may prevent a miscarriage.

Thanks for the suggestion. I saw the DR in January and they did the 2 major blood tests (3 day and progesterone). She said my levels were good, but didn't give me the specific results. I'm going to call for a follow up appointment today. Also at the time one ovary had 6 follicles and the other had 4.

I'm beginning to think it's just age and lower quality eggs and maybe IVF may be the way to go. I've also read Clomid can help, so I'm going to see what options the infertility specialist recommends.

DH is getting fed up and about ready to give up. This has been much harder for him as I think he has a more sensitive temperment and I'm more even and it takes a lot for my emotions and feelings to come out. Also, I've just assumed we could do it on our own and that it would eventually happen. But I realize now that unless I want to just accept that we will only have one child, I need to take action now, hopefully while I can still make some good eggs.

I would really encourage you to head back to the fertility specialist and consult with him/her. We got pregnant with DS when we weren't trying. Then we tried for #2 for about 6 years and nothing. I kept hoping and thought our timing was off. FInally I got up the courage to go to a specialist about it and found out that I wasn't ovulating. It would be a little tough to get pregnant without an egg! It took a little while, but here we are - 26 weeks along. Maybe a second child is right around the corner for you. I would consult and see what the RE thinks. He/she can also monitor you early in the pregnancy and catch any hormonal issues. Your hormones may have been fine normally but may be wacky when pregnant.

Congrats on your second pregnancy!! Six years is a long time to wait. I'm glad you finally found out the cause.

I'm seeing the specialist on Monday, so I'm getting my thoughts and questions together...and getting nervous. AF is also due on Thursday so I'm hoping for an unexpected BFP, but also expecting AF will be on the way as usual.

I saw the Dr today and found out I have low antral follicle counts. My left ovary has 3 and my right has 1. I did the 3 day blood test on CD 5 and my FSH was 4.69 and Estradiol was 65.1, which the assistant said was in the ideal range.

The Dr's suggestion was doing 2 rounds of IUI with clomid and then move on to IVF. But I'm wondering if going straight to IVF would be more productive. I also really want a singleton and doing IVF with one embryo would ensure that (unless it split into identical twins). But then maybe we could have success with IUI... I'm confused and need to decide today/tomorrow if I want to do the HSG test this week so we can do IUI next cycle. Otherwise it will wait another month...

We still have to do a SA, but DH wants to wait until we're done with BD this month as he doesn't want to get worked up about it right before trying.

I don't know what the best course of action is for having low follicle counts but good hormones...

I had secondary infertility. My son was born when I was 18 and my daughter at 36. It took a full 3 years to conceive my daughter. I ended up resorting to Chinese medicine.

The IUI/IVF decision is not an easy one. I didn't have to make that decision, so I don't have much help here. I would think that money would be an important part of the decision making process, since IVF is so expensive without insurance. Go with your heart on this one - whatever you decide will be right.

We got DH's SA results and he's "good/normal with excellent count and morphology"!

We've been set to go with IVF to get things moving, but then when DH got the results, he's thinking maybe IUI or trying natural for a few more cycles would be worthwhile. We also found out the clinic for the IVF procedure is quite a driving distance for us, which makes it just that more stressful of a situation. I'm going to meet on Tues with the Dr to go over all our options and not rush into IVF this next cycle. A friend of mine is seeing a different Dr in town and their IVF clinic is at their office, so I think it's worth checking them out, since this is such a big decision.

I'm still concerned with my follicle count being so low, so I'd like to hear what the Dr thinks and maybe get a consult with the other Dr as well.

We're going to go ahead with IUI with clomid or clomid & injectibles and do 1-3 rounds. I'm going in for my HSG procedure next week, and I'm also meeting with an acupuncturist who specializes in fertility. I'm kind of excited about that as I've never gone and I think it will be nice to talk to someone with a different medical perspective.

So my right tube is blocked... I wasn't expecting that. My Dr says we can still do IUI, we'll just make sure we're stimulating the left ovary. I've been to the acupuncturist twice and I like the two ladies there. My second treatment had electrodes, which was interesting and somewhat uncomfortable. I also had the burning moxa as I'm usually very cold. They've got me taking herbs this cycle as well.

I have mixed feelings about all this. I'm happy that we're being proactive and trying to make my body the healthiest it can be, but I also have a feeling this cycle I'll be ovulating on the right and it won't matter.

Good luck with you cycles. It's great to have a plan of attack. Even when things didn't work immediately, I had something else to try. I hope it works easily and quickly for you. And tell your left ovary to get busy!

Hi - I'm going to jump in here as I'm in a similar situation. I've been TTC #2 since April '08. We went through 5 cycles of OI with injectables and one IVF cycle which we had to convert to IUI due to low response. I started acupuncture and Chinese herbs in June 2009 for 3 1/2 months. We started OI with injectables again and triggered just this past Friday. We are hoping for a BFP - I am so optimistic one day and discouraged the next. So goes the 2ww I suppose. It's been so hard since our DS was conceived second try. First try we conceived but ended in a m/c at 6 weeks. We are really hoping this will do it for us. I'm a lot healthier since starting with Chinese medicine/acupuncture. I'm hoping everything is now in balance and will help me conceive a healthy baby. Good luck to you all as well!!
