Smile Newbie w/ Secondary Infertility seeks advice

Hi,

I'm new to the forum! I'm a 34 1/2 yr-old women w/a 2 1/2 yr old son born 06/2007 when I was 32.
Knew we wanted to start trying for a family around the time I got pregnant w/him, but not RIGHT at then. (Was doing acupuncture treatments at the time for dysmenorrhea.) Fate had other plans (thank God) & I unexpectedly got pregnant. He was born happy & healthy & all was right w/the world. We all moved overseas in 08/07 for my DH's 14 mos. tour of duty in S.E. Asia & that was that.

Fast forward to Jan.09. 2 mos. after we moved back to the States we decide it's time for #2 & we start trying. I mean we got pg. so easily the 1st time, the 2nd time should be a breeze & I'm barely 34...we shouldn't have a single cause for concern...right??? Wrong! By the summer I saw my Ob/Gyn who placed me on Clomid. Went thru 2 rounds & had a strong instinct it wasn't the way to go. Finally, saw an RE 1 mos. ago, had testing. Diagnosis: right blocked tube (dom. ovary), thyroid attacking my eggs (now taking leuvothyroxine TSH appeared normal in June of 09, but + for antibodies), & husband's sperm has poor morphology.

He gave us a 1/100 chance of getting pg. naturally, 15% w/IUI's & 40-50% w/IVF. Which we're going for & I'm currently doing ART prep for to begin a round in Dec. Any thoughts, comments, questions, suggestions, would be greatly appreciated!

Best of luck with ivf! I am 33 and have a 4 year old dd conceived naturally...also easily. We started trying for 2 when she was 1 1/2 or 2. After over a year with no luck we talked to our ob. He said the typical stuff, but I still got my referral to the re. Found out I have severe endo. I had two laps and 3 unsuccessful/cancelled ivf cycles. We are now waiting to start ivf with donor eggs. I am so excited to be finally getting somewhere! My point is...keep your head up. You will be able to complete your family.

Unhappy

Thanks ladies for sharing your stories! To Sarah: I hope you're able to adopt & it goes through problem free. We've contemplated adoption, but we have mixed emotions.

To lilcbru: The stats I've seen w/using donor eggs are really good. Like adoption, I contemplated that option also, but have mixed emotions about that as well.

I have days where I feel like God/Universe (whatever) will only ever let me be so blessed. Then I think things could be a whole lot worse like at least I'm not living out of a my car w/a two yr-old!

Then I'll see a mother w/a newborn & a toddler waiting at the bus stop in a town where most people get around by cars & wonder "why her & not me?" There are NO easy answers.

I know what you mean about feeling pretty good about your life and then seeing a pregnant woman with a toddler. It isn't like we can avoid it...we have young children so have to go to the places where there are families. We are lucky though. We have our child and we have options.

As far as using DE, I had to do a lot of soul searching before I made the decision. I still have days where I grieve, but I also have days where I am so excited! That is something I haven't had in a long time.

Best of luck to us all!
