Frustrated

Is there anyone here who has had children without help and then started having problems? I had two children with no problems and we starting trying for our third about 6 months ago and it has been problem after problem. I had a miscarriage in june at 6 weeks and during that pregancy discovered my progesterone was low. After the miscarriage my doctor had me get a progesterone test which took a couple months because I didn't ovulate. It came back too low. Then he put me on Prometrium and I had it tested again and the drugs did absoultely nothing. My level did not rise even a little. Next I am supposed to use suppositories and I am not clear on why that works when the pills didn't.. I am not sure it will. I am feeling frustrated and sad. I didn't expect this to be challengening because my other two were not. I am wondering if there are others out there like me or if it is unsual to have two pregnancies without intervention easily and then not be able to have another? I am hoping someone has a good outcome to share. Thanks for listening.

I am in the same boat as you. My 1st and second pregancies weren't planned. My next two were 1st shots back to back months (chem preg with 1st). So I have been prego 4 times and now can't get prego. I stopped my pill July 2006. I had a hsg this month and it looked good but AF is still coming. I wish I had some good news about progesterone but I don't know much about taking it. Did you have a short lut phase or low temps?

hi

They think i have a short luteal phase because i have fairly heavy spotting usually starting 10 days after ov and then my period 2-4 days later....i had some other symptoms of low hormones though and was told by another doctor that they were low so I asked them to check my progesterone since it was low on the miscarriage. I had no problems like this until a year ago. My first two kids were very easy to concieve. They weren't easy pregnancies but it was easy to get pregnant. This is a different experience for me. Tons of people I know around me are getting or are pregnant, and I am still here trying. I know that some people have it so much worse and I'm lucky to have two but I still am having a hard time dealing with it not working. I am really hoping the progesterone suppositories work for me but who knows. So they haven't been able to find any reason for you that you can't get pregnant? Its so frustrating! I hope it happens for you soon.

Thanks. I hope the proges. supp. work for you as well. I just spoke to my Gyne and he recommended getting blood work drawn. Are you seeing a specialist? My husband won't see one because he said all is in God's hand. That means no meds for me. He did let me test his sperm using a home kit and all was well though. Sometimes I get so down and think maybe I was only meant to have 2. Three of my friends have gotten prego and delivered already while I've been ttc. My sister got prego not ttc but not being careful but miscarried last month. I too am very thankful for my 2 boys but I would love atleast 1 more. I'll keep you in my prayers!

Unfortunately we've had difficulty just conceiving our first child so I can't completely relate to your situation. However, I was on prometrium for both of my pregnancies because my levels were at the low end of normal. I have seen and read many different things regarding progesterone. The pills go through your who system, the suppositories are more focused on the area the hormone is needed. There can also be a variation as to the dose required and how many times per day. Be sure to ask those questions as well.

hi

I am not seeing a specialist so far...just my OB. I might though if the problems continue. I understand the frustration....I just saw a friend today who wanted to have her 3rd when I started also....she just had the baby on saturday... It definitely adds to the frustration when its happening for other people. Good luck.

Believe me I can relate. In the almost five years that we've been trying we have witnessed each of our friends give birth to not just their first but their second children as well. The numbers keep growing and it's hard to watch but in the end we know we are blessed.

As for the specialist, and I don't know your age, it's recommended after a full year of trying without success. If you are over 35 then it can be 6 months. If you feel you need further assistance or testing then request a referal to a specialist. While your OB may be great there is only so much they can do once you get to a certain point. If that makes sense.

Jen, how did you stay strong for 5 yrs. My husband's family doesn't even know that we are trying because his sister tried 16 mo to get prego and they are trying for their second. He doesn't want to tell anyone. The only ones who knows that we have been trying are my bff and sister. I sometimes say that i'm stronger than this and i shouldn't get stressed but, it's just so frustrating! Congrats on your little bambino!

I too conceived my first child without much effort, but a retained placenta infection from his birth left me fertility challenged. Sometimes having children can go on to lead you to have problems conceiving again, so yes, it's possible.

I did however want to share a success story of a friend who had 5 children but then went on to have major problems conceiving her much wanted baby number 6. After nearly 2 years trying to get pregnant, the last 4 months of which she was put on clomid, a HSG showed that both her tubes were blocked and she was told she'd never conceive without IVF. Heartbroken and at a lose to explain the blocked tubes her and her husband gave up their baby dream. Nearly a year on I have just heard that she has found out that she is pregnant! She was obviously very surprised, but it happened against the odds, naturally.

Anyway, just wanted to share that with you and tell you not to give up hope. Yes, get some tests done (the HSG is a must!! Checks your tubes) and try to relax a bit (I'm still trying to do this, LOL, is very very hard to do when TTC becomes your life!) and BD as much as possible around O time. Are you charting?

Best of luck. I've heard good things about the progesterone pessaries, so fingers crossed that is all you need to get your baby wish.

hi

Yes, Jen how did you deal with it for 5 years. I feel like a wimp for being so upset over 6 months. I guess because my others were not challenging I wasn't prepared...but then no one is. My best friend told me today she is pregnant. They tried this month only. Its also her 3rd. I'm so happy for her and glad that for her at least it won't be a struggle....but hearing the happiness in her voice really made me long for my turn even more. We found out we can't try this month b/c my OB wants to make sure the suppositories work first. If this doesn't work I am going to a specialist. I really wish you all the best and I hope it happens soon for everyone here. Its a really hard thing to keep being positive and counting your blessings. I know I am blessed and lucky....but still disappointed another month will go by with no baby. Nursectu, sorry this month wasn't the one for you

hi

I am charting this month to see if i can figure anything out. Has anyone charted and realized they had a problem from doing that? I did chart with my last one b/c i had an irregular cycle and i know that did help me know when to try.
