Anyone have High Blood Pressure and use Clomid or other fertlity treatments?

I have chronic HBP and am so disappointed My Dr told me today that she wants to do a natural cycle artificial insemination with my husband's sperm b/c she is concerned about using clomid on me with the risk of a multiple birth (i.e. She is not sure I could carry twins close to term.) I have carried 3 babies to term (though Matthew was induced at 38 weeks and with Christopher I was induced at 40 weeks for BP issues and given mag sulfate to reduce my BP... but there was never any concern that I would have to deliver really early or anything). Does anyone have this issue? What are you doing fertlity treatment wise?

hi there- I have chronic hypertension and have for 10 years. I am currently 5 weeks preg and hve been taking labetalol for my HBP which I will stay on throughout my preg.

I also did Clomid and used estrogen patches. As long as your HBP is controlled and closely monitored you should be ok. We are at higher risk for pre-eclampsia but hopefully I will not have to worry about that!

I have suffered from HBP since my DS was born (6 years ago).
I talked to my Ob/Gyn, and he said so long as I keep an eye on my BP and take my meds things should be fine.
I have had several cycles with Clomid, and last month we did Clomid with Gonal F for an IUI. And, I do BCP in-between cycles.

Good Luck

I also have high blood pressure and the only thing I had to do before doing IVF was switch to a "safer during pregnancy" medication which is Hydralazine. I can stay on it throughout my pregnancy. I have used gonal-f, follistim, menopur, ganirelix, lupron, PIO and vivelle patches and have not been affected by them. I do monitor my pressure very closely, just in case.

Thanks for the replies - it's nice to talk with people with some of the same issues.
I am on labetalol and methydopa which they say are very safe. I still have some BP issues even though I am on the medication b/c the meds that really work on me I can't be on. I have had HBP for 10 years and still delivered 3 full term babies but from what I understand the Dr is concerned that I wouldn't be able to carry twins to term. I not sure how much greater the risk of HBP issues is for twins vs single babys.... I also thought the risk for a multiple birth with clomid was only 5% but the Dr said that since I'm ovulating on my own (apparently I even ovulated 2 eggs last month without medication though neither resulted in a pregnancy ) she thinks the risk of multiples might be greater for me. They say the natural cycle IUI will increase my chances. I'm praying it will. January 16 my little angel William would have turned 1 and it would be wonderful to know that we are expecting again....

Did anyone else's DR seem concerned about the risk of multiple birth while doing your fertlity treatments (because of the HBP issues)? I found out that if the natural cycle IUI doesn't work then they will start clomid next month which is a relief.

Wow!! That's great! When do you find out if you are going to have more than one baby? If I thought I could carry twins I would actually be praying for them:-) I always wanted 4...
