Lisa,
I don't know if I'm going to give you the answer you're looking for but I'm over 40, in fact I turn 41 next week, and have got pregnant by IVF twice in the last year (see my signature) but both times have lost the baby ... in fact, I'm in the process of naturally miscarrying this pregnancy since we didn't see a heartbeat at our u/s on Tuesday. We haven't had a f/up visit with our RE but on Tuesday he told us not to give up on our own eggs ... obviously that conversation requires further discussion since he does feel it's maternal age that was the factor in this and our last m/c but that's a conversation we'll have once we've had time to grieve and heal a little - of course, time definitely isn't on my side though!! IF is a bitter journey with many highs but also many lows. What are you thinking about for next steps? I fear that this might be the end of our journey ... this has been a 6 year struggle and my DH can't take the rejection anymore and it truly kills him to see me fall apart. He was so, so excited with this pregnancy and planning for the future - now he feels all of that is crashing down too. I do wish you the best of luck

Hi Lisa,
I am 40 and have a high FSH. I was told I would not be a good candidate for IVF. I was okay to go ahead with alternatives because I have two biological children and three adopted children. We transfered two donated embies in Aug. Unfortunatly it ended in an ectopic preg. We are now waiting for a Feb donor egg cycle. I really encourage you, if you want to use your own eggs, to try!! Blessings to you in your journey! Kay

Theresa-Thank you so much for yuor honest and caring words. You are right, it is such an uphill, downhill ride and the pain along the way is horrible. I have miscarried on my own before IVF. I would just like one good month (FSH low) to try a cycle or two. Just see if I can even produce the eggs To attempt fertilization. My biggest hold up is the local dr is a rather rude, straight to the point, no bedside manner man and I am afraid to go back to him. What I am going through tears me up enough without a cold Dr being involved. So I guess my plan is to at least go in and talk to him and probably take a very assertive friend with me that he treated and she got pregnant near 40. It took her awile too.
My heart goes out to you and it helps so much to talk to someone who is at a similar fork in the road. You did not really ask but let's assume you did-ask what I thought you should do. I have heard that different labs to different (better or worse) jobs with the eggs and sperm transfer, have you considered a different Dr and or lab? If you are getting plenty eggs to work with it may not be you at all. I learned this at the old IVF Drs' office I was going to. Anyway, whatever your decision and plans I wish you the best. Just one more question though. What is your FSH like? Thanks again for the reply, it meant a lot!! Sincerely, Lisa |

Kay- Thanks for sharing and I wish you lots of luck! I really would not mind the donation route so much but it is so expensive and for me it would be/should be a last resort. I hope to hear good news from you soon.
Thanks again, Lisa |
