Thanks DeeDee! It is ovidrel. I know I can do it! It sure was easier when the nurse did it for me though! This is not the first time we've had "the talk". I think this was the third or fourth time. My RE really cares and is really conscientious...

Good luck MzVee! Sounds like there will be a lot of us on the 2ww at once!

Hello

Hello Ladies,

Sorry to just jump into your discussion. I've been reading your posts tonight and it has really helped me get through my latest BFN. I thought I had support from my friends, but I had one friend ask how long I was going to continue with "all this"....as if it was a fickle whim. Oh well. You can't only rely on others to support you. I just wanted to say good luck to everyone. I will probably go to the doc on Friday to start the cycle over again and continue this crazy, fickle whim of mine.

Hi all!

MzVee, congrats on some great follies...grow little guys grow!

Jen, yay!!!!!!!!!!!! I think your follies sound great! Your doc is just being a nervous nellie. Just so you know 20% of all live births with IUI/Meds are twins. Only 1% are higher order multipes... given your age, number of attempts, etc the chance of IUI working at all each try is probably close to 10% then the 25% they give the ladies under 30. So don't fret. You have like a .1% chance of triplets. It's still a chance and the thing with statistics is they are just that...averages...and some women are on either end of the bell curve, but like you said, with this being #9 it's worth the risk.

I know how you must feel cuz multiples scare the piss out of me. I know I wouldn't be able to do a selective reduction.

I think that you'll be fine at 40 hours... the literature says to give the IUI 24-48 hours after the trigger, so that's why most docs average it to 36. I think you'll be fine at 40... if you O at 24, that still gives enough window of opportunity for the sperm to get to the egg, and if you O at 48 hours the sperm will be there waiting and still be alive and kicking. Plus, with three eggos in there, they may not all blow at once, so I think 40 hours is a good timing. Trust the doc. He's prolly done hundreds of these and probably goes on instinct with the timing.

As to the HCG trigger, listen to Deej...I've had to give SQ shots and they're not bad. They don't hurt as much as the ones in the muscle. If you let the trigger get warm to room temp it will hurt less, or you can ice pack your tummy before you do it to numb it up. The needle part is probably less painful then putting the med in. Just poke it quick...you can even do it with eyes closed if you aim ahead of time and don't do any wild gestures when poking...I have a hard time poking myself too. Pushing the meds in isn't hard for me in terms of the pain because the psychologically tough bit of poking myself is over. It burns though. Just do it slowly and worst is it will burn a little like a bee sting.

Good luck!!! I'm so excited for you! I think the 3 sound very very promising that one of them will stick and make a baby...I am sending you lots of !

Hugs!

Thanks Ona! I know all the odds (in fact, I was a statistician & probabilist after university, so I know WAY too much!) but my RE really spun me. I do find it helps to hear the same stuff from you ladies. It reinforces what I already know and makes me feel like I'm not nuts.

I know what you mean about multiples scaring the piss out of you. The very idea of a selective reduction... I can barely even imagine it.

I do tend to ovulate on the later side when I go naturally, so 40 hours might be just fine...

Tami - Hang in there...don't let your friends get you down. Anytime you need to talk, jump on, we are here for you! It is hard to get others to understand and I pray they never have to experience this but I think it is something you do not truly understand until you are in the situation. Some people I have completely stop talking to them about it...simply because they don't understand. And although they mean well...it does not come across as such!

Keep the faith!

Tami!!!!!!! I'm glad you decided to join all us fickle, impulsive baby makers. ;-) hehe

Sod your friend! Sounds like she hasn't let herself see things from your perspective and is being very judgemental and rude. I'm glad you are moving on and ignoring her... don't let it stress you out and just let it wash by you. Maybe later, once you are pregnant, you can talk to her and tell her how much her lack of faith and understanding hurt you...or not...sometimes a social enema is just what the doctor ordered.

I know I agonized literally FOR YEARS over whether I could be a good parent alone... I didn't start this roller coaster of ttc until I was sure it was what I was meant to be doing and that I was prepared to deal with the ups and downs along the way.

Of all my friends, only one was negative and judgemental, but she's always like that about everything I do so I didn't really expect any different. We had talked before I even started TTC and all she could say were condescending negative things about how raising kids was really really hard...and I didn't know what it meant to be a single mum...bla bla bla. When I told her about TTC she didn't say anything but gave me the disapproving "Hmm" then silence. I basically have just ignored her since. Not because I put any power into her words, but because what kind of friend is she if she doesn't have faith in my judgement on something as big as this? Luckily, for the one friend who's a naysayer, there are 10 others going "OMG! You're going to be the best mother ever!"... so hang in there.

Again, welcome to this great group of ladies and I hope you'll stick around and share your journey with us. These ladies are super and I think I might have barfed on the rollercoaster long ago if they hadn't been holding my hand.

Yay Jen! It sounds like 40 hours is perfect. Remember that the trigger acts a bit slower than natural ovulation hormones too...just cuz it takes a while for the body to process it and send it where it needs to go..plus some people excrete the drugs faster than others...but with your follies it sounds really really good! I think you'll be fine!

Hey, if you do have triplets we'll just have to go in on a farm together and raise our kids commune style! ;-)

Hey Tami,

Just an asside, but in reading your history it looks like AF is showing up between 7 -10 days after your IUI... that seems like a REALLY short luteal phase. Does your doc give you progesterone after your IUI? Have you been checked for a luteal defect?

I was just curious cuz the math wasn't adding up...

Hugs!

Mindi!!! I think the trigger is a GREAT way to go to be sure you can time things properly and that the lil egg lets loose! I read some RE's prefer to wait until 40 hours after trigger with IUI, whereas with IVF it's shorter, like 36 hours to be absolutely sure that the eggs don't escape before retrieval time... I think it should be xlnt timing as the follie can still keep growing 1-2 mm per day, so by Sat. it will be between 20 and 23 mm! whoo hoo!

Boy, are my ovaries slow at producing those follies. Well, I've always had long cycles so it's not a surprise.

Tami!!! We are a very active supportive group! I think you'll be happy you found us! About non-supportive friends... who needs 'em!? Unless they are family, or come around to being supportive pretty quick, I'd say cut 'em loose!

Ona, maybe your big heart and mind are weighing in extra lbs. for your TWW to end with the BFP!

MzVee, I'll be starting my 2nd IVF cycle in a couple weeks. Hope we both get the BFP in our Sept. cycle. I'll be at least three weeks behind you, I think. Good luck with your next u/s to you and sounds like the follies are doing great!

Jen, 3 follies!!! Great! I agree with Ona, I don't think you need to worry about triplets. The docs sometimes say scary things bc they have to cover themselves for the possibility but I have read posts by ladies that went ahead with 5-6 follies with IUI and got zero or just one embie to stick. I'd hate to do a reduction, but I'd hate even more to jeopardize a pg., ... but the reality is, I'm not likely to need to at my age. Multiples would be a little scary though, everything would have to be evaluated if it got to that, I'd suppose. The shots into muscles creep me out. I really hope not to ever need that kind... I did my hcG shot for IVF myself and it went ok... I was very nervous, but just allow yourself enough time... lay out things ahead, use the bathroom first, etc. After I was all worried, it was over so fast, and I felt a bit sheepish at myself. I was totally alone, but still!

Kuddleygal, did they give you a way to thin down your lining without reducing fertility? or will a thickened lining be a boost to it?

Kathyrn, what a great mommy, getting Davis covered by insurance so quick! Sleep deprivation must be real tough, though, I'm sure!

Deej, cool link to the video!!! I saw one about the Gonal F pen on U Tube that helped when I had to do those too.

Oh, almost forgot to mention I picked up my perscription and ordered most of the meds from an online pharmacy today!!!! yay!

Cramps aren't necessarily a bad sign, Ona... take tylenol, and I hope the next 8 days fly by!

Um, so I couldn't get the cap off the needle when I went to do my trigger shot last night. After I struggled with it for a bit it finally came off but it bent the needle in the process! Yikes! I did the shot anyway of course and the drug went through the needle okay. So despite a moment of alarm, I am triggered!

Oh man Jen! What a crazy experience. Sounds like something I would do... the first time I did an IV during paramedic training, the cap on the needle was stuck too...I pulled really hard to get the cap off and it came loose so suddenly that my hand bounced back and jabbed into the needle...blood everywhere! DOH!

I'm pretty sure this is all prometrium related...hot flashes, heartburn, weight gain, cramps...all on the list of possible side effects. Still hopeful though, and glad you get to join me for the second half of the wait. :-)

Ok, I am off to go return the empty cryotank...been procrastinating that task all week...it's not nearly as much fun driving the hour to Fairfax when the tank is empty.

One good thing is next week is going to be majorly busy for work so I won't have time to stress out.
