Yay, Ona! Your fertilization report confirms what I believe about quantity not being tied to quality. I always got a fair number of embies/follies for only one ovary, but my fert. rate was about 65%. (I usually ended up with 7-8 mature follies, 5 eggs, and only 3 fert.) Fingers and toes crossed for you.

Susan, I second what Ona said. Given your age, you should be optimistic to have a good one in among the 7! And I don't think you should have any fear about ET. Even here, where they anesthetize the crap out of you for ER, you get nothing for ET. I just had to drink lots of water, they threaded the catheter up, and shot the squirts into the hoo-hoo. Other than a pressing desire to pee, I felt no discomfort at all.

Jen, isn't it fun to sort of tell folks (e.g. the dentist) that you're pregnant? I remember when I was barely pregnant, ordering a smoothie. They often add some supplements that are contraindicated in pregnancy, so I had to ask for the pregnancy version!!! Even though it was just the pimply clerk at the smoothie store, it was awesome to acknowledge to someone that I was, in fact, preggo.

Well, I scrambled and met the deadline. Thank the lord I'm a fast typist!!!!

Kathryn.

Susan, Kathryn is right. ET is nothing to worry about. For me it was just like an IUI only with u/s guidance and a full bladder. Walk in the park, except for the strong desire to pee!

Kathryn, yes, I got a total thrill telling the dentist! And yet I am very reluctant to tell people I actually know. My mother is 'suggesting' that I tell my cousin and aunt (I'm very close to both of them) but I don't feel ready to do that.

I'm glad you met the deadline.

THanks gals! Keep those vibes coming! I'm having a hard time working because all I can think about are my three little buttons and how they are growing. TOmorrow is going to be even worse!

Thanks for sharing your ET stories. The ET aspect has me nervous too. My doc usually gives patients valium iv but I am allergic to it. At first they said "you don't need meds" and I'm like "Uh, not a chance!"... so they gave me a Rx for ativan pill. Problem is I have to take it a few hours ahead of time and timing it to be effective at the right moment may be a challenge.

Anyway, it's good to hear it's not as scary a deal as I've been imagining it. I'm also doing acupuncture before and after to hopefully keep me calm and relaxed.

Susan, I'm so pleased we're cycle buds and I hope your embies are growing nice and plump as we speak.

Jen, I keep meaning to tell you how cool your stories about your mum are and the whole being pregnant experience and the little things like telling the dentist sounds so cool. I'd totally be floating on a cloud.

Ok, so I have a silly question. I'm giving myself the PIO shots, which aren't too bad, but I'm noticing that when I take the big a$$ needle out there's like a drop of the oily stuff coming out of where the needle was. I tried waiting 20 seconds before taking the needle back out but it doesn't seem to matter how long I wait. Anyone else experience this? I'm just paranoid that those drops mean I'm not getting the full dose. Yes, I'm being a freak.

Ona- I would NOT worry about the droplet of PIO after removing the needle. The only other suggestion, is can you remove it a little, try to massage the area and then remove the whole needle and see if that helps? I can't remember if I had any droplets after removing or not, but sure it wasn't a big deal. If it's really bugging you, put a little more PIO in syringe, then you know you are getting the full dose... and by a little more, I mean 1 tiny line on the syringe! Hang in there.... can't wait til your ET.... and it did not hurt a bit! Full bladder uncomfortable, but that's it.... and I had no meds!

Random PIO droplets are nothing to worry about, Ona.

Jen, don't feel pressured to tell family members before you're good and ready. Apart from the traditional reasons, I think you should savor your pregnancy for a while. (Except for the random stranger/dentist/pimply smoothie pusher!)

Hi girlies, just plucking up the courage to give my Gestone shot, it hurts and I get leakage and it bleeds, I have to give it in my thigh and Mondays injection is still sore today. I alternate thighs and the thigh from last night is still red. I tend to sit with the needle in my hand plucking up the courage, sometimes it slide out and I have to change needle and inject the rest. Any hints or tips would be greatly welcomed.

Ona, I'll be thinking about you tomorrow. Will you transfer all 3. I'm not so freaked out by the ET, I believe it'll be similar to an IUI and I didn't have any problems with them. The only thing I'm bothered about is that I still feel sore in the ladies department and I think I might find it uncomfortable.

Jen I agree with the others, I'd enjoy your pregnancy for a while longer before you start telling other people. Do you feel like your walking around with the biggest, happiest secret that no-one knows? thats how I felt. Tell people when your ready to tell people.

Marisa, how are you feeling? not long now.

Right better get this injection over and done with.

Hehe Susan...I have that same anxiety before I do my shots. I have to do mine in the bottom and it's really hard for me to get the right angle on my big fat butt. I will uncap the needle and just sit there staring and trying to talk myself out of being a chicken. THe shot itself really doesn't hurt that much at all, it's just the sticking the big gianormous needle into my flesh that creeps me out. I find that after the shot I am sore too. It just feels like a perpetual bruise on my bottom.

THanks for the tips on the droplettes. I think I am just being a freak for no good reason.

Yes Susan, I plan to put in as many embies as possible, so if there are three I will put all of them in.

What time is your ET Susan? With the time difference I imagine yours will be quite a bit before mine.

Thanks to all the shared stories, I'm feeling a little more calm about the ET. I found the IUIs to be quite uncomfortable, so I'm still glad they're letting me take some happy medicine before the transfer.

AGH! So obsessing on my little ones and how they are doing. Nothing is getting done with work today. :-/

Hi ona, injection done. My ET is 12.45. I have a blood test at 12 as I'm at risk from hyperstimulation, I'm hoping that tomorrow I can stop measuring my fluid in/out take, tonight is that last night I use the vaginal cream which I'm so pleased about, as you can image its not very nice the next morning.

Am I right in thinking your 10hrs behind. I'll be thinking about you tomorrow.

As far as I'm aware I'll only be having one embryo put back because of the change in law, though I wish I was having 2 put back, I know it only takes one but it would still be nice to have two put back just to increase my chances.

Anyway lots of luck for tomorrow

Night night
Susan

Susan, I hear ya! I took my last E2 suppository on Monday and it was so nice to be free of the grossness for a day or two. Of course soon I'll have to take the progesterone suppositories..ugh.

I think I am 8 hours behind...D.C. is 5 hours behind and Vegas is 3 hours behind D.C... of course, we just had daylight savings so no idea if that makes a difference.

So I guess it will be somewhere close to 11pm where you are when I'm having my ET.

That's a shame that the laws there only allow one embryo to be put back. But hopefully you'll have lots of totsicles.

Do you find out how they all grew on the day of as well? This waiting is making me crazy!!!

Ona, I took ativan before my last ER (never had it before) and it relaxed me so much that I don't actually remember the second half of the ER.

I hear you gals on the suppositories... I've been on 6 a day since Sep 25 and I am getting a wee bit tired of the constant ickiness.

Nope, don't intend to tell other people. For one thing, it seems that at my u/s (which was 7w4d) the little bean was not, in fact, measuring 7w2d (which didn't worry me) but 6w4d, which does. My sac was small too. Thus, I am pretty concerned about the next u/s and what we might see. I am hoping with everything I have that my little bean catches up a bit. My RE displayed not a single ounce of concern (and he's Mr Doom and Gloom), but I've seen so many sources that say my bean's too small (and granted, a few that say it's on the small side but still within the normal range). So I'm kind of worried now, so definitely not telling other people yet.

Not long till ET day!!

Quite a big day we've got going on today! Good luck and lots of to Susan and Ona today on their transfers!

Jen, I can understand that might be worrying, but if Dr. Doom and Gloom doesn't seem concerned, hopefully everything is okay and your bean will catch up. And I have seen many beans catch up on all the boards I am reading here, so just get lots of rest and let that little one do what s/he knows how to do best - grow and snuggle in!

As for me, I am very down today. POAS this morning and nothing. And so I am depressed, because there were 8 million swimmers in place at 10am, and three follices that I very painfully felt make their appearance (on both sides) that afternoon...and not a single one of them managed to get together. That doesn't bode well. I am wondering how long I try IUI, and if I dare go to IVF and deplete my savings in one fell swoop if my job is potentially going away in the next three months. Argh.

Don't mind me. Sending lots of and to you, Ona and Susan!!!

Susan, good luck with your ET!! I am sending you lots of sticky vibes!

Marisa, I'm sorry for the BFN this morning but don't give up yet. It may be too early? If it is truly a BFN I think you really should consider a more aggressive approach given your age and fsh but moving on to IVF is a very personal (and potentially expensive) decision. In a young healthy woman the chances of each individual IUI working is about 25%, but us high fshers have a much much much much much lower chance of it working. Just the chance of an egg being healthy and normal is only about 10% and then there's only 25% chance of fertilization and implantation. That's only 2.5% chance of pregnancy per egg. In the end, you may go through your savings in IUIs by the time you see success and if you don't succeed you'll have spent potentially another year or more trying.

Anyway, that's just my perspective. Even IVF isn't a guarantee of success and you need to be realistic about your age and egg quality.

ET completed

ET was a piece of cake, even though my legs were shaking and my heart was beating far too fast. I've had 2 embyro's put back, 8 cell and 7 cell.

Of the 7 which fertilized 3 were discarded 2 will remain in culture and 2 were transferred. Pregnancy test is 20th November.

Ona, good luck, I'll be thinking of you.

Marisa, sorry its a negative, was today your OTD? I say its not over till the red lady appears.

Jen I've heard loads of stories where the pregnancy measures behind but then catches up and over takes, in fact there is one lady on one of the other forums here and she also used donor sperm, so I wouldn't worry. Do you have another scan booked?

Susan

Good luck today Susan and Ona! So exciting!!!!

Marisa, I am just trying not to worry and sending my little bean lots of growy vibes - nothing else I can do, and time will tell...

I wouldn't give up just yet. Many women don't get a positive hpt until beta day and sometimes not even then. Hang in there!

The move to IVF or not is a very personal decision. I would go with what feels right to you. I can tell you that I regret spending so much time on IUIs that were probably never going to work for me, but you never know what is going to work or when. You did seem to produce a lot of follies that first IUI (where you cancelled) so maybe you'd respond well to IVF. Go with what feels right, I say!
