Kathryn - Congratulations! Isn't it just the best feeling when you see that heartbeat!
I think it's normal for them to be quiet at that scan - at least with mine they warned me first that they would be but the nurse's face gave away that it was ok.
So how many weeks are you? Did they say how big it was measuring?

It's measuring 7 weeks 3 days, which is a few days earlier than I would have thought, but within the normal range, and my RE thinks it's fine. I can't remember the exact size, although the technician said 1/2 an inch. I called it a "bean" and she said it's too small for a bean, so I suggested a lentil!

And it was great to see the heart pumping away! The technician turned on the doppler so I could hear it, too.

You know Dee Dee, I've gotten so accustomed to bad news, that I didn't even know how to react! I was stunned! My friend Amy was there with me, holding my hand and peering around to see the monitor. She actually saw the heartbeat first and gave my hand a squeeze, but I thought it was a sympathy squeeze, and I totally deflated! Then when I was told that there was a baby there and it looked good, I just felt numb. Even now, I'm still trying to process the information and to allow myself to think and dream about all of the things I have been suppressing out of despair, like baby names ... painting a nursery ... daycare. It's truly overwhelming.

Kathryn.

I must be addicted... I keep logging in from work, compulsively.

Kathryn, that is fantastic news! I'm so happy for you. I can only imagine how overwhelmed you must feel.

DeeDee, Kim, any news on your appointments today?

Well, I am sure you will be able to enjoy the beauty of it all once the shock has worn off! What you said is so true about being accustomed to bad news...
You are going to be a mommy!!

Did the u/s alleviate some worries you had been having?

Ladies: i had doc consult today. if insurance goes thru i am having the lap as soon as possible... at first i thought it would be nice to take a break from ttc, enjoy the month of january, etc... but that idea was short lived. a cousin told me to turn it all over to God, be peaceful with the decision and get it done! my mom agrees, keep the momentum going ( in the big picture 4 attempts is not enough to need a break) and a lady friend who is an ob/gyn said to get it over with! So, I am very much looking forward to getting it done, fixing what may be wrong and entering 2008 ready to procreate!! Thank you ladies for keeping my spirits high.
Kathryn and Su: you two keep me motivated as well. two real life Single Mums to Be!!!

Keep in mind, y'all. It took me 6 tries ... 2 iuis, 2 ivfs, and 2 FETs. For me, moving forward was better than taking some time off because I felt like I was doing something. That I could still hope.

Speaking of hope, I hope your insurance takes care of the lap, Deej.

Deej, that's great that you are moving forward so quickly. That's what has me so frustrated - that I'll probably have to wait months for my lap - I'm not sure how well I'm going to cope with the waiting at all! I'm ready to procreate now. (I may need you ladies to help keep me going) I hope the lap comes soon for you...

Su & Kathryn, you are definitely helping with all of our motivation, I think! Something for the rest of us to aim for!

And it didn't happen for Su right away either. 7 IUIs for me so far, and nothing... I don't mind if it takes some time but I do want to feel like I am moving forward with whatever the next step is - then, as you say, at least there's some hope. I don't really want to take a break...

Here's hoping my surgery date is sooner than I fear!

When do you find out about the insurance Deej? Any word on that?

I agree with the feeling of not doing anything! The one month I had to sit out, I felt like time was a wasting... But I can see how a break can be beneficial. For now, no break... Assuming insurance covers it. I called the doc back and they do not know yet, but perhaps soon.
Lilac: I hope if the lap is your next step that they are able to schedule it sooner than later! If there is a cancellation, would it help to move you up on the list? And even if you have to wait, we will help you pass the time and stay motivated...
Kathryn: 6 tries sounds like a wonderful number! if i am that fortunate, i would be one happy mamatobe

Hello my beautiful ladies!!! Well I made it back from Tampa a couple of hours ago, grab a bite to eat, and now finding the type to type. Tampa was great. I haven't seen my friend in almost 2 years, so it was nice just spending time with her talking about stuff especially since she'll be deploying to Kuwait in 2 weeks (I thought Iraq, but definitely glad it's Kuwait). I think she thought I was depressed or a little crazy 'cause I kept wanting to log on to this forum . Every time I got into a good reading pattern, she'd strike up a conversation. So I felt a little guilty and just decided to wait until now to post. She has 2 sons, 22 and 19, so she sympathizes with me but I don't think she can fully appreciate my struggle.

Deej--I'm glad your consult went well and your mom went with you. I'm gonna send up a special prayer that insurance pays for everything. Let us know when it gets scheduled. As far as your 19 yr old brother, tell him when he graduates from college to give me call .

Lilac--I'm gonna send up a special prayer, someone cancels their surgery at the last minute and they call you. Yes I agree with you both to keep the momentum going. Too bad your brother is still into "little girls", he might learn a thing or two from this forum of strong, smart, beautiful women

Kathryn--Oh how sweet!! I was thinking about you all morning. YES YOU HAVE ONE LITTLE LENTIL IN THERE!!!

KuddleyGal--I think you have doc appointment on Friday. If so good luck.

Kim--Sorry you got stuck in a 25 year old's bar for New Year. I was a my friends house and found it hard to stay awake past 1 o'clock. Hopefully we will all end 2008 better than we started it.

Okay so someone explain to me if you produce 4 or follicles a month on clomid with a few BFNs, why would the results or chances be any better on injectibles? Aren't injectibles used for follicle production as well? Is the follicle quality better? I especially want to ask Su about menopur as I see in her sig that she did switch. I'm just curious.

So y'all know I've decided to celebrate the small things God has given me. So here my celebrations today:
1. I'm celebrating Kathyrn's fantastic u/s and that beautiful flicker!
2. I'm clebrating Deej's and Lilac's movement forward toward motherhood.
3. I'm celebrating making back safely from my trip because I saw a pickup truck flipped over in the median about 20 miles from my house.

On the radio today I heard the host say exactly what I've been thinking. We all have the goal to be mothers. We must also celebrate the successes along the way. He said, "an inch is a cinch"! He used the analogy of wanting $200,000 right away, he said if you concentrate on the first $1,000 then the second, or perhaps you save $1,500 the next time, you'll get to the $200,000. Most people, however, look at the goal of $200,000 and give up before they even start. Little milestones is 'cause for celebration. Deej and Lilac, even if your surgeries show absolutely nothing, is that still cause for celebration? Kathryn and Su I know you are still cautious until you reach that second trimester, but we're celebrating 'cause you have created life!!

My last question. An hour after my IUI (on my way home actually), the sperm bank called and said my #1 is available (y'all know he always has a waiting list). I have until tomorrow to purchase. Do you think I should purchase (I can only afford to buy one vial a month)? I mean, if I buy it could be mean that I feel I'm already out this month. If I don't, he may not be avaible in a couple of weeks. Please tell me what you think.

To new beginnings....

Erica: glad you got home safely, and were able to spend some time with a friend you have not seen in a while.
Thank you for the prayer regarding the lap. I appreciate all the prayers I can get.
Lilac: do let us know if getting on a wait list is a possibility. if not, we will keep you encouraged!
Kathryn: did you get to keep a pic of the u/s
Re: injectibles, from what i have read on the forum is that the side effects are less than clomid and that it does not damage your lining... Since I responded well to clomid and did not have side effects or problems with my lining, I have not moved onto shots. The odds for mulitples are higher 1/14 as opposed to clomid 1/20. or something like that... i have it written down somewhere. plus the doc said no injectibles until after the lap... See what your doctor says, and let me know what you learn!
Regarding donor #1: go for it! can you buy and store there at the bank and sell back for 1/2 if not needed? remember Murphy's Law, you buy it, you will not need it!
I am loving the celebration list and hoping to make it a tradition... we can keep it at the end of posts for those who are not interested...
1. I'm celebrating Erica's wonderful IUI experience and safe return from Tampa.
2. I'm clebrating Kathryn's u/s and that she saw her lentil and heard a heartbeat!
3. I'm celebrating relatively good health and the chance to continue on my journey!
We are all one day closer to becoming mums!

Well I have tried to tell him... he's not a total loss, though - he does at least like strong, smart, beautiful women... he just likes them on the young side - could be worse (I mean, that girl he went out with when he was 19...)

This is so true. How else did I get through university (twice!) and buy a home and make it through my ttc journey so far? And if our surgeries show nothing, well then we can move ahead with ttc without doubts, right?

Well, I would go for it! But then I buy 3 vials at a time... I figure if you end up not needing it, great (Murphy's Law - you might be lucky if you buy it!), and if you do need it, then it's ready and waiting for you! We all know how difficult it is to get the donors we want. Hey, I have 2 vials sitting on ice waiting for me to try again!

So, I have stressed to my RE that I will take any opening that presents itself for the surgery - i.e. any cancellation is mine... but he still said it might be a 3 month wait. I will try to be strong! Of course, it's been nearly a month since he said that, so that might mean only 2 more months. Strong, strong, strong...

Good things for me today:
1) We have two good little beans (or lentils!) with good heartbeats.
2) Those of us not yet pregnant are moving forward in our journeys - on our 2ww, or coming up on our next (or first!) IUIs or consults, or moving forward to figure out what might be wrong and fix it!
3) After a pre-Christmas week during which other departments provided absolutely nil support to me during a critical time, when my P and VP informed me today that my department needs to provide more support to other departments in the coming year, I was calm and rational and did not scream at them, but instead told them what would have to change in order for me to do that. Yay me. Major triumph, especially since I am still having cramps and I wanted to hit something!
