Thyroidglobulin Counts

Hi guys, I already posted this at the end of a thread but I thought I'd make another of its own just in case someone wasn't looking in the other place.

I found out something new recently. We moved and started treatment with a new doctor and I asked my old doctor to send along my old records. So they sent me a copy to bring along to my doctor's office, naturally I looked at them. Everything was normal except for two things:
one- My Thyroglobulin was 0.4, normal is 2.0-35.0 ng/mL
and two- my Thyroglobulin AB was 44.1, normal is <20 IU/mL.

Does anyone know off the top of their head if this is anything to be concerned about? My new doctor brought it up but didn't seem to be all that bothered by the news. Next time I go in, I'll bring it up again but wondered if anyone on the board has experienced a similar count and how it affected you.

Thanks!!

It looks like Hashimoto's Thyroiditis to me. But I'm not sure if your Thyroglobulin AB is high enough to be considered Hashimoto's. Did you get a Thyroid Peroxidase AB done? My Thyroglobulin AB is 77 and my Thyroglobulin is 3.3. Hashimoto's is an autoimmune disease where your thyroid antibodies attack your thyroid because they think it is a foreign body. What is your TSH?

From what I know, as long as your TSH and Free T4 are in normal range you shouldn't have a problem conceiving and carrying a child to term. But make sure your doctor has the new range for TSH. It's now considered normal if it's <3.0. The old normal range was <5.0 and not all doctors know about the new range. You need to get this checked throughout your pregnancy.

Please don't be scared. It's a lot to take in and it sounds way worse than it is. And remember, I'm not a doctor so I could be completely wrong!

Oh wow! That's something I will definitely be bringing all this up with the doctor asap. Elaine, thanks so much for all your insight- I appreciate it.

So I checked over my records again and couldn't find the Free T4 thingy but my TSH level is: 2.47 so that's a relief. As for the Thyroid Peroxidase AB, that's 14.8 and I think that's in the normal range because it didn't have an alert next to it like the others.

But thanks so much, that's some good info

That's good about your TSH and Thyroid Peroxidase AB being normal. I could be wrong about the Hashimoto's then. I know people with Hashimoto's have high thyroid antibodies. And it sounds like only one of your antibodies is high, and it's not really all that high when compared to others. You might want to ask your doctor to feel your thyroid and see if it's enlarged. That's another symptom of Hashimoto's.

If it is Hashimoto's, try not to get on the internet and read about it when ttc. You will only scare yourself! All doctors I've talked to really don't seem to think it causes problems ttc or problems with pregnancy as long as it's controlled. Good luck to you!
