COnfused on TSH

Hey ladies,

I have been trying to concieve for a while now but just got some test results back from the gyn that kind of shocked me. My TSH is 3.58 and my Testosterone is 67. Has anyone had these on top of PCOS and concieved naturally? I have not had problems with these test before, what could change them this much?

I don't know a thing about the testosterone. But it looks like you're Hypothyroid. Any TSH over 3.0 is abnormal and will require medication to lower it. Not all docs know that the new range is under 3, some think it's under 5. So make sure your doctor raises your Synthroid dose. You shouldn't continue ttc until your TSH is normal and it also wouldn't be a bad idea to get a Free T4 level drawn.

I have never taken Synthroid. i am starting it in the morning. Also my Free T4 was 7.5 so I am starting Spironalactone for that. Hopefully my numbers will get into the normal range and we can start trying again..!

I have been taking synthroid forever. I personally feel best when my TSh is 1 or under. I am not sure what you are taking for t4 level. My RE says that optimum target for coneption and carrying baby is TSH as close to one as possible, and T4 as close to 10 without going over. On my labs scale t4 over 10 is high. Tsh under -5 is to low. No one should have a TSH higher than two according to most RE's. You want T4 to be close to high, and TSh to be close to low. T4 is what is converted to T3 which is actually what your body uses. It would not hurt to have your T3 and reverse T3 Esentially a full Thyroid pannel done to make sure you have no conversion problems. Sometimes a problem with conversion can be there for a long time before TSH is changed. This could be worth the effort because it can be huge when it comes to getting pregnant. Good luck and I hope this helps.

Thanks for all the replies. I will have to talk with my doctor and see if they will run all of the thyroid panel for me. I guess I have a lot to learn.
