Going for surgery..GULP!

Well this is it gang! My last visit with you while this lump is controlling my thyroid. I will be going to the hospital first thing tomorrow morning. I'll only be in the hospital for 2 days. However full recovery is different for everyone so I don't know when I'll post again, they say I won't be able to move my head or neck at all for a few days and won't have full mobilty for 1 to 2 weeks so no driving etc..I am sure I won't be able to chat with you again until at least Saturday or Sunday. My mother is coming in from NJ to help DH hold down the fort for a few days but she can't stand computers, her rule is she won't come if I sit on the computer while she is here. Mom is a bit controlling, but she's Mom whatta ya gonna do? She is on her way as I type so that's why I probably won't get back on the computer again for a while.

I am terrified something will go wrong during or after surgery but I spoke to the nurse she said they've never had complications with this surgery so that made me feel a whole lot better. My DH took home that baby stuff his sister gave us and just seeing a porta crib and baby bouncer in my house made me so excited to know my life is about to be thyroid tumor/hyper thyroid disease free and therefore that much closer to being IF free! This is a major step for me to one day becoming BFP!!! I will miss talking with you over the next few days, I hope I come back to lots of you being I am wishing you plenty of baby dust!

Jen

Jen,
My prayers will be with you tomorrow. I was just told yesterday that due to the swelling of my thyroid for the past two years we may want to look into partial removal as well. This is something that had never been mentioned to be before. It is being controlled (level wise) by synthroid but the swelling has been consistent for two years and I have a reactive lymph node on the side of my neck starting just below my chin that seems to be bothered by the swollen thyroid. So I guess we'll see how that goes but they aren't going to see me again until May. Let me know how surgery goes for you.

If I could change anything it would be that I didn't face this sooner. The larger the thyroid gets the worse the surgery and the bigger the scar. Also one thing that has been made very clear to me is that there is almost no chance of conceiving healthy embabies without a healthy thyroid. Your levels may be ok but the swelling is an obvious sign that all is not well in your thyroid. My advise is don't wait until May, go see a thyroid endocrinologist and get their opinion now.

OK Mom just called to put coffee on! She is around the corner...BYE LADIES! I'LL BE MISSING YOU ALL!!! GULP!!!

Thanks for the advice, I am in the process of looking for an endocrinologist now just to be on the safe side. No one has seemed alarmed by it but I've not seen a specialist either. My last ultrasound showed it swollen but no goiter or tumor, just big. Do you think that this could have been why my embryos arrested early and grew so slowly? Even though my levels are in check? OH my, time to do more research.

Jenedens~

Yes I do believe that is most likely the problem because what happened to you is exactly what the Endo told me will happen to me if I don't have the lobe removed. My big stubborn argument for the past 4 years with the past 4 endo has been if they can get my t3 t4 tsh normal than why can't they then address the IF with and RE and every single one of them refused to promote assistance with IF until I have the lobe removed. I went to an RE and was secretly hoping she would disregard the endo and treat my IF and she would not help me until I have the lobe removed too. They were united in the opinion that I would not have healthy embabies even if I conceived or that the thyroid would react even worse under the stress of pregnancy and or hormones. And this seems to be what you are describing as happening to you as your discribe lobe swelling and unhealthy embabies. It is worth looking into seriously for sure.

Anyway wish you lots of luck keep my posted.

We are thinking about you today as you head in to surgery. May the Lord be with you and the surgeon today. My prayer is for a quick recovery and may this be the answer you are looking for.
