possible hypothyroidism?
Hi girls,
Wondering if you had any input on this? I went in for some bloodwork at about 8 months postpartum with dd (10/06) and had my TSH levels checked. TSH was at 5.0 (this is all the information that I was given) Apparently, dr. said this was within normal range. I had an early m/c in dec. and I am thinking this is related to my TSH levels. Since then, I have had VERY bad PMS symptoms, some spotting before my menstrual flow (these last two cycles especially) fatigue, anxiety (which developed after giving birth) headaches and I always have cold feet/hands. In addition, I have been charting my bbt and my temps are between 96.9 and 97.1 (cd 1-cd 7 so far) I feel these are rather low? I am going in to see myob/gyn on Monday to discuss these symptoms with him. I have been ttc for about 4 months now. I will take a break until I find out whether this is in fact hypothyroidism. What do you think? Anyone else with this? I just want to get back to feeling normal. Thanks so much, Willow ![]()

Re: Hypothyroid
Hi Willow,
You should schedule an appointment with an endocrinologist..explain to him that you are going through fertility treatments and you need to have your thyroid under 2 , also tell him the symptoms you are feeling (all of hypothyroid-cold, fatigue, anxiety). This is what I had to do and I have a bit more energy and feel better being on a low dose. (my thryoid was at 6.2 which they still tried to say was boderline- the issue is that different doctors have different ideas of when meds should be used and what is borderline, criteria has changed over the years and there are so many people out there that really should be put on even a low dose of meds) I would insist on being put on a low dose and wait 6-8 weeks or until your blood results show under 2. before trying fertility treatments again. I'm not saying that this is the cause of your fertility issues (I am still trying) but it doesn't help matters either. The same part of your brain that works with your tyroid works with controling hormones/reproduction so I think it has more to do with fertility than some doctors think..Anyway, my two cents..good luck Sis

Willow,
Yes see an endo. Thyroid problems may be brought on by "stressers" These stressers are not emotional stress but hormonal stress and after reading your post you clearly have had hormonal stress on your enocrine system system. Good luck keep us posted! Jen |

It is very possible, many of the symptoms you've listed are what I've experienced. I also had weight gain that is difficult to take off. I gained 40 pounds in about three months and have only lost about 10 thus far. While the TSH of 5 is in the normal range it needs to be between 1-2 for a healthy pregnancy, it's on the border of being higher then the normal level which stops at 5. So I'd suggest seeing either your primary care physican or an endocrinologist for a full panel of blood work just to be sure. Never hurts!
